I thought some of you might find this interesting!

When I was in Quebec, I stopped at Safari Condo to check out their poptop campers.

They had this new trailer on the showroom. Obviously it’s not meant to gooff-road but I thought the concept was genius.
The windows make it feel very spacious. Overall the quality of their products is impressive – in my opinion better than Sportsmobile.
Weight is only 1543 pounds.

Okay, now you did it. If my wife see's the indoor kitchen and toilet she will go throw rocks at ours. Can I put that on 34's?
Thanks, Thanks a lot! :xxrotflma

Interesting find!

The Airstream 16 ft models weigh almost 3000 lbs dry. The 15 ft Alto weighs 2000 lbs when you add options included in the Airstream like heater and air conditioning. Makes one wonder about the durability of the Alto.

Christian, what can you tell us about prices for the Alto and its options?

Base price is about $25K. As of now they told me they don't distribute in the US although it should not be too hard to bring one.

They just started selling these a few months ago - it's their first season.

I am not sure how they manage to save that much weight but I would not assume it's cheaper quality - actually it seemed really well done.

And contrary to most wide angle pictures, this trailer does feel as spacious in real life. In my opinion, these windows make all the difference in the world. You don't feel cramped or trapped - it's a much better camping experience.

They have wrap-around curtains when you need privacy.

Safari Condo has a dealer just west of Vancouver, BC that will sell to US customers. I was up there last year and took a look at them. From what my brief visit allowed, they looked like an improvement over much of what one sees down here in the states. However, decided their models were not quite a fit for what I was interested in. I believe they are made in Ontario Canada and US customers can bring them in from there as well.

Damn I wrote this in 2008....I am getting old.

As far as I know they are still in business and are offering the same trailer.
We and the forum have gotten wiser, not older, Christian.

I'm thinking along the lines of getting something "in between" the teardrop we're using now and a full-timing trailer that we'd get for retirement.
I still want to fit it in the garage and I'd finally like to get dressed standing up...
So the Alto 1713 is interesting and the Chalet XL1930.
