New (to me) Gen1 doesn't idle...

Well, three days into ownership, the Montero left my wife stranded in the middle of rush hour traffic in one of the busiest intersections in our area.

The truck has a random high idle, usually. Now, it won't idle at all. If I give it gas and feather the throttle it will run, but is undriveable this way. I'm suspecting the idle control valve (ICV). I removed, cleaned the ICV and throttle plate, no change.

Before I buy a new one and throw money at the problem, is there a resistance test for these or are they supposed to hum/buzz in a key on situation?

Thanks for your help...

I don't recall the steps to check the ICV/ISC (Idle speed Servo) but you can find it in the factory service manual. You can find a number of them on mitsubishilinks.com.

If the timing belt is worn or stretches and jumps a tooth, and the cam timing gets off, it will effect the idle. It did on mine.
