M416 or M100. looks like it has the older "C" shackles, which I think the M100 had. Data plate or visible stamps?

Looks like a good start, Pick up a sand blast bin at HF and start the build.
remove the cobbled tongue and start fresh.
Keep the pictures comming!

I am going with M416 as it looks like mine and it had the same setup. Looks like they also cut the handles off of the corners. Mine looked about as bad when I started.

Great find and yes keep the pictures coming.

yeah, m416 it is... i looked at a million pics and also measured. all the dimensions match up, it's a m416. not sure what vintage yet but looking. no plates or ID marks on it that i can see. PO had it (and used it) on his farm for 20+ years

it's going to be a while before i can put some time into it but this thing is a keeper.

because i need this thing, i'in the process of making it roadworthy right now, the re-rusting and rebuilding of the tongue will have to wait a while. first step: lights

i bought a very reasonably priced trailer light kit (by peterson, V540), scroll to the bottom for link to huge pic

the lights are basic stop/turn/tail combos and i think they look good and more or less match the style of the trailer (pics coming).

i'm trying to sort out the wiring (so far only the stop lights work) because the PO made a mess.

even with these super basic SSTs i should have parking lights in the rear of the trailer. meaning, if i turn on my parking lights and/or headlights, the trailer lights should light up (less than with full brake lights on but they should light up, right?) or do SSTs just not do that?

Not sure what you mean by 'SST's'? Stop Turn Tail?

But yes, even with a set of cheap lights, you should have Tail lights when the truck's lights are on.

The 'Stop' and 'Turn' run off the same bulb. (on most trailer lights)

If your tow rig has separate turn signals (orange) then you'll need an adapter wired into the tow rig, in order for the trailer lights to work correctly.

Nice looking trailer! They are getting harder to find it seems.

got some work done on the trailer today. i ripped out all the horribly badly soldered wiring the PO had put in and put everything back to stock. instead of cutting into the stock harness, i went with this adapter by Hopkins:

it's about $25 but well worth it for someone like me who cannot do wiring in the slightest. it's put together very nicely and plugs into the stock harness without disrupting anything.

i was able to adapt the Peterson lights to fit the factory m416 bracket and keep the lights above the lowest point on the back of the trailer. because this trailer will actually get used 90% for things that have nothing to do with camping and expo travel, and because most of the time i'll be doing the work by myself, the trailer needs to be able to pivot on the lowest point in the rear so that i can stand it up to be able to fully dump out the trailer's content. here's how they look from the rear:

here's a closeup of the tail lights:

i mounted the ligts on the opposite side so that i can mount the license plate above the raillight rather than below so that i can use the built-in license plate light reflector. this too will be important for being able to protect the lights and keep eveything above the lowest point on the rear of the trailer. see here:

i'd like to order parts for this build but cannot figure out what type of axle have on it

i'm looking into doing the toyota conversion (trailer has 5 lug hubs now and i want to change over to the toyota 6 lug pattern). i know that if my trailer has different inner and outer bearings i can buy new drums and can keep the parking brake (which is what i ultimately would like) is there any way to tell what i have without taking the thing apart? i have money for parts but no time to do anything with it at the moment (you know how that goes, when i had the time i didn't have the money :))

this is what my trailer looks like (which type of bearings do i have?):

i'd really like to buy this setup

which would allow me to keep the parking brake but to do that i need my trailer to have the axle with different sized bearings (see above). if it doesn't i will order a new axle.

Why the need for different bearings. The axle has 5x5.5 pattern and bearings are Federal Mogul A35 containing a bearing (LM501349) and Race
(LM501310)

The seals are Federal Mogul 472018.
