One item on the running boards... a buddy of mine runs the stock running boards on his G-wagon.:Wow1:
He does this on both easy and hard trails...
The trick is to re-enforce them with 1/4" thick square/rectangular steel tubing and use stock aluminum running boards as stock looking facia for the armor. It'll look totally stock but can support the entire weight of that side of the far heavier g-wagon on his HiLift.
Now, I'm not sure how easy it would be to do with the Montero but if it's doable, I would have done that before throwing out my side steps.
