New To Us D5: Impressions and Comparisons to LR3

Luckily they, like most Rovers, depreciate quite rapidly in a few years time 😁
That depreciation is part of the plan :)
We also test drove a Defender when they first came out, and it didn't really have the impact the D5 had....totally subjective of course, maybe we had higher expectations.
We played with Broncos for a couple years but they just never really had that feel of a Rover. The 6G Bronco is a great machine for off roading, as well it should be, after Ford stole Terrain Response and called it GOAT modes. But not a Rover.

I went from an LR3 (great truck) to the D5 to the D110 which is our daily driver and all around transportation appliance. The thing that bugged me most about the D5 was the rear hatch - I much preferred the lift gate/tail gate of the LR3.
I saw an artist rendering of a design study for the D5 that was a bit more squared off at the back end with a lift gate/tail gate - I think it would have been much more popular if they had gone with that design.
I also have an old Defender 90 and two Series IIA's - I've owned twenty Land Rovers since buying my first one (a 1961 SII) in 1972. One of my all time favorites was my 1991 Range Rover Hunter but I'm really enjoying the 110 especially once I put some BFG AT tires on it.

110 would definitely be my choice if I had to pick a successor to the LR4. I do love the versatility of the D5 but when the new Defender exists it just is better in every way if you plan on making it a more "adventure" truck. Plus that interior is just so... good. I don't love the other modern Rover interiors as much. Of course, you can get a used D5 for almost half the cost of a 110, so that's a BIG factor too.

Having owned every version of the Discovery / LR and currently own an LR3 and a D5 I can attest to all the comments about capability.

biggest complaint - rear Hatch and being able to climb on the roof rack.......

Off road not a lot in it - although my 18 yr old is driving the LR now - but on road the D5 shines

However, I'm always looking for a good low mileage HD LR3 🤣🤣🤣🤣
