Newbie question-how long do my slides new to be

I’m researching options to build a set of drawers and have a very basic question:

How long do my slides need to be? If my drawers are 40” deep to I need a 40” slide?

I agree, most full extension slides will extend PAST the measured length... so a 38" slide might actually slide out 42" with 4" of overtravel. Accuride and others seem to have this an option on the beefy drawer slides. I would think a 38" with over travel would be perfect for your application.
