Almost finished (until I get back from Spring Break)

Well I have worked another 2 evenings on this trailer.

I came home from work yesterday and got the wires and lights run and hooked up on the trailer. I had picked up a hitch I found on CL this past Saturday and got that bolted on also. I hooked up the trailer and pulled it around the nieborhood:wings:. I then located the wires that power the Jeep turn signals and tail lights, got them labeled and called it a night. I still don't understand how "Jeep" can justify a $40 trailer wiring kit when it costs about $4 for a 4pin plug with about 5' of wire. I got that done today, took about 20 minutes and that includes finding a place to ground it and cleaning it for a good ground.

The good UPS man came by today and left me with the fenders I ordered from etrailer.com. Man they are awesome. 13" wide and made for 16.5" wheels. I had to "modify" them a bit to get the proportions right all around the tire. You just can't find a "store bought" fender for 31" tires on 17" wheels.

I called the police dispatch tonite to get an officer come by and inspect for the BMV, dispatcher told me one should be by before 5pm tomorrow night. I will have a tag for it by the weekend and will be towing it everywhere I go to "shake it out". If something is going to break I want it to happen within 30 miles of my house instead of 14 hours from home.

Anyway here are a few pictures of the last couple days. Hope you enjoy as much I have the last couple of days, it finally looks like a trailer.

I have a 2" drop hitch in the receiver so the front of the trailer is down a bit. I need to get a level hitch.

Before you make a big job of shortening the axle, maybe take a look at some Jeep CJ5/7 fender flares. That's what I used on my trailer with what is probably the same fender. The flares aren't as long as the fender so you can probably cut off ~5-6" on each end of the fender to match the flare if you did it this way. Would be much easier than modifying the axle, and would cover the rest of your tires.....and it's a Jeep part. :)

And that flare will flex when you rub up against a rock, instead of bending like metal.

I am of the opinion that the soft tire should be the widest part of a trailer - to give it a little cushion in tight places.

Box Rocket, how far are your wheel/tires away from your frame? Mine is about 5" from the frame. With the 13" wide fenders it looks a little wierd to me with the tires on the outer edge of the fender.

Your trailer was a big inspiration in this one's style. Although it will not be "offroad" ready for a couple more months. I had to get this one road ready, next Thursday I will be pullig it almost 950 miles to Texas for a week of fishing, drinking, and eating under the sun and stars.:victory: I think I did it. I will finish painting this thing tomorrow and pull it everywhere I go this weekend to make sure nothing is going to break. If it does I would rather have it happen here and not in........ let's say....... Little Rock or Dallas:sombrero:

Well...... I have 2 extra now that I would maybe sell. I was going to mount one on the trailer for a spare......but for the right price EVERYTHING is for sale:hehe:.

2100 mile shakedown trip

Well we made it 2100 miles this last week. I do have to change a couple things, 1st being the lid, it bent in the middle from front to back. I'm thinking a piece of angle iron all the way around it to stiffen it and to keep the water out. I also want to build a rack on the lid, haven't put much thought in it yet though.

Here are a few pictures if your interested.

My paint started coming off the fender before we got to Effingham IL.

Got to have the first aid kit. (I did have to use it the first day at camp). I haven't decided on the tailgate yet, so I didn't want to waste the time and money on metal until I figure out what I'm going to do. It did work wonderfully as a table for cooking breakfast on and making adult beverages at.
