Newfoundland 2016 - Just the tip...of the iceberg

Thanks guys, it really was a fun adventure. No good waves, just some very windy days with white-caps.

We woke up to a beautiful panoramic sunrise on the beach, which I was utterly incapable of capturing.

We hit the road with some more exploring in the Codroy Valley on our plate for the day. My absolute favorite kind of exploring, hiking along an unknown coastline and keeping an eye out for any cool stuff that's washed up.

It was tough to enjoy the beach with the huge crowds of tourists...

We meandered our way down the coast, from the sunny Codroy Valley to under the clouds and into the rain near Port aux Basques. Setting up camp at JT Cheeseman again, I managed to get a nice fire going just before the skies opened up. We didn't let a little rain slow us down while exploring, it sure as hell wasn't going to get between a pregnant woman and her smores!

Fun trip. I love Newfoundland. My folks and older sister were born there. They had me and the rest after they came to the states. Been back to visit family a few times, but would love to just explore and wander. Kind, loving people there too.

Our time in Newfoundland was sadly at an end, but we had a few days of exploring left that we were really looking forward to. Back to Cape Breton Island we went!

The seas were a bit rougher than our previous trip, it made the trip quite a bit more entertaining!

We unloaded in the welcoming sunlight and headed north to a KOA carved into the chilly southeastern side of a hill.

This has got to be my favorite Pavement Ends sign I've ever seen

Meat cove is spectacular. Every campsite has a view. It's got a fantastic seafood shack, an ice cream stand, a beach, a hiking trail, the list goes on and on.

Packed up at the crack of dawn we headed for the states, completing our epic journey in a short 14 days, over 3075 miles and 13 nights of camping. We spent 11 nights in the roof tent and 2 sleeping on the platform in the Jeep, taking shelter from the wind. It was a heck of a time, with an ABS sensor crapping out on day 2 which also disabled the traction control more importantly the cruise control. Besides that, the Jeep and our setup performed as good as I hoped, with one glaring oversight: Laundry. Managing the quantity of dirty clothes was something I didn't really have a plan for. Live and learn :victory:

You can get the pricing on Marine Atlantic website. Depend on the route and time. If you elect to have cabin space, the cheapest travel is daytime to Port Aux Basques. Nighttime cabin cost 2x of daytime rate. You need to pay a fixed price for vehicle and passenger.

Sorry if this off topic, but I'm wonder how is the driving on Trans-Labrador Hwy from Quebec to Labrador?

My current setup is a pop-up trailer. I'm in progress to build my SUV for over landing purpose. I'm interested in the route above. I'm hesitate to hook up the trailer and drive.

I was there last year. As far as i remember Quebec city to labrador city 40% paved and some really rough sections. Labrador city to goosebay most of it is paved as far as I remember. after goose Bay it's all unpaved but I was able to maintain 90kmph most of the road. we did that whole section from red Bay to Boston in one single stretch so it was a bit tiring but if you break it up it should be enjoyable. There is some industrial traffic near labrador city. Make sure you pick up the free satellite rental.We did it in a stock 4runner.

Thank you! The ferry was almost exactly 400 canadian round trip. That was 2 adults, 1 vehicle, daytime North Sydney to PAB, nothing fancy.
