Next-gen Land Rover Freelander will receive Defender nameplate

looks exactly like the Evoque

It is a test mule - meaning the underpinnings are the new model, but exterior skin is from the Evoque (with a little stretch at the back). How this looks is probably not going to be the real sheet metal. But expect a lot of evoque styling just like the new RRS

Really, I mean really and truly: Did anyone except the deaf, dumb, and blind expect any other outcome? The battleship, silent movies, and a million other interesting things have died as well. Good by and ta ta.

Good God, the original article is so screwed up I can't tell if it was even trying to be factual or just trolling.

There must be 9,000,000,000,000 threads on the interwebs about the end of the Defender and what may be next.

...Then there is an article like this, that makes "some" sense... I can see the LR2 name being dropped in the US. They can rename the LR2, Discovery, and what's the Discovery "X" for the rest of the world will remain the LR"X" stateside. How they figure out and rationalize the names of these vehicles is beyond me. It would make sense to bring back the SERIES name, while they're at it.

There would be a collective face palm world wide if the "Freelander" rolls out with the DEFENDER name. That would be like Ford discontinuing the Mustang, but renaming the Fusion, Mustang the next model year. Lee Iacocca would roll over in his grave.
