NGK spark plugs

Anybody ever deal w/ NGK if they had a problem w/ one of their products?

Started my truck this morning, came in to get my stuff and my daughter asks
whats that noise coming from the engine. It sounds like a metalic slapping
and then stops but the check engine lite is on. So I drop my daughter off at
school and when I get to my school ( I'm a Drafting instructor) I ask the autotech shop to scan the truck for the code.

Anyway the story is the code said missfire on #3 we pull plug and the electrode is missing and in my engine. Explains metalic nose upon startup.

Got the new plug from Autozone where they were purchased, and contacted
NGK but had to leave a voice mail since tech support closes at 5:00.

Any imput would help?

I don't know about what NGK might do for you, but I have seen this happen before. If the noise goes away, the electrode probably just got blown out past the exhaust valve. The noise you heard was the electrode taking up the clearance between the piston and the cylinder head . . . usually if the noise doesn't go away it just means the electrode got stuck in the soft aluminum of the cylinder head (remove head, remove electrode from head, reinstall original head - electrode will be flattened and usually you can pluck it off the head with a fingernail).

ngk

So if it blows past the exhaust valve does it still need to be taken out of there or is it caught by the cat.

thanks

I've never dealt with NGK but I had this same issue with the #5 cylinder.

I recieved a code while on the freeway, pulled over, heard ticking noise and babied it home.

I had installed new plugs earlier in the week and for whatever reason the insulator cracked and I'm assuming it went out the exhaust...didn't seem like enough reason to pull the head.

75,000 miles later all is well:jumping:

Hey

I have run NGK in motorcycles and never had a problem. Come to think of it, I have never had a new spark plug that has ever failed or cracked. I usually use fram, AC or bosch spark plugs in my vehicles over the years, no problems with newly installed plugs. Lucky I guess. Good luck with your response from NGK.

seems to be fine

Well it seems to be fine (everyone x their fingers or nok on wood) I went by the toyota dealer to talk to service and they said it seems like its in the exhaust. Got home and shock the cat and could hear a rattle. We also looked at the head w/ a scope and saw nothing.

NGK got back to me and they want all six plugs back, since they come in lots.
So He's sending me six new ones out on monday.

Its good to hear people were lucky which I hope I am cause I'll never get to build my pop-up cap if I have to work on this and my wifes Camry.
