Nice day in the garage today.

Awesome, I had a chance to spend some quality time with my raider today and got a lot done. I finished the installation of my augmented LED lights. I also installed a new heater core. I replaced the fuel sender unit. And almost wrapped up installing my dashboard back into the raider.

Tomorrow I've got plans to work on it a little more. I want to wrap up the dash installation, re-install all the seat belts, all the interior panels, interior trim, all the seats as well.

I also have to do some work to the "other" blue raider at some point, but I want to prioritize my raider first. The goal is to have it ready to drive to Seattle and back midweek.

Yesterday I spent more quality time with the raider. I finished reinstalling the dashboard, reinstalled the center console, and stereo pod. I nutserted more interior panels around the speakers, reinstalled the front seatbelts, reinstalled the front seats.

Oh yeah, I also cleaned everything thoroughly before installing things. I'm going to drive north to Seattle midweek. Anyone want to meet up in the evening after work hours?

I'm on a roll. I just had a third day of quality time with the Raider. All of the interior has been completely re-installed and everything is back in order with one exception. The rear seat needs to be re-installed. I broke some of the bolts off during dis-assembly (4 of 12 bolts broke). I just ordered a new bolt extractor set from SnapOn.

I have a buddy of mine in the Seattle are who recommended this tool so I'll see if he can help me with extracting the first few bolts so I can learn how to properly use the bolt extractor set.

I drove the Raider around a bit this evening. I'll be driving it up to Seattle tomorrow night and I'll return on Thursday night.

The Raider is nice an clean and it smells so good. The heater core gave off a bit of a funny "new" odor but that is gone now. I filled the gas tank and checked all the fluid levels. Its going to be a nice ride tomorrow.

Whoa that was weird. On my drive up to Seattle from Portland my gas pedal got stuck. The throttle body was closed so all I could do was idle along after taking the Castle Rock exit off of I-5. It caused a delay of about an hour and a half because I had no tools. I bought some stuff at the gas station and determined it wasn't that there was something stuck under the pedals. Nor was there anything wrong with the throttle cables. The cruise control servo was working as it should and after calling my buddy Kary, who I was on my way to see, we both came to the conclusion that it was a problem with the throttle positron sensor that was obstructing the baffle plate on the throttle body.

It turned out to be the case and I was able to get it back on the road. Has anyone else ever ran into this problem?

I know what the sensor does, but I don't know how it does it. Can anyone please describe the mechanics of how the T.P.S. works? Physically, what does it do?

Sorry to see you're have troubles Jay.

Can't really help you out on how the TPS works but f you are you stuck in Seattle, more than happy to turn a wrench with you or buy you a beer.

Your buddy Kary, would he be a teacher who did a v8 swap in blue Gen I shorty back in the day?

I don't know specifically about the 1G Montero, but, if I had to guess, it's probably a resistive type TPS. It works basically like a potentiometer and the ECU figures the throttle position through the voltage it sees.

Eric, thanks for the reply. I had a really good chance to look at the T.P.S. yesterday. You are right about how it operates. I just can't fathom how it would have caused the butterfly valve in the throttle body to get stuck closed like that. Hence causing the stuck pedal. I think there may be something else at play here.

Well in the end my trip from Seattle back to Portland was uneventful. So I suppose that is a good thing. The raider ran really well with no concerns. I kept a close watch on all the gauges of course.

It ran strong, I met up with two of my forum buddies and even had a chance to extract some broken bolts. What a pain!!!

I had a chance to do some drafting behind a fast moving semi truck for about 50 miles and it contributed to my 14.27 mpg.
