How many of you guys own a 814d here in Canada or USA? I've only seen one in my home town. What I'm curious is how hard to locate and how pricey are parts locally if I were to import one of these vans from Europe?

Diff vents are just above the wheel hieght attached to the chassis rail so this is about the safe limit for wading, but the book says about 1/2 metre from memory . Also if you get stuck in the water do not apply the hand brake if its air assisted as they draw air in. This unit has the older type hand brake, ie two cables and a lever, so would be ok. There is a deep water kit available usually fitted to fire trucks but only takes it to an official 1m depth

I used to own a genuine Camel Trophy Discovery and the diff vents were extended alongside the snorkel to the top of the windscreen, hence all those lovely pictures of the driver sat inside up to his chest in Amazon water still chugging along ...

You know, I wouldn't complain with either one! But you're right, If I recall it was a '91 and thanks for the info... There's an even older model for sale here in Vancouver, a 1987 508D with only 20,000km! But man that thing must be sloooooowwww!

I have put many thousand km on those during my time in the German army. Yes, they are super gutless.... But robust! The truck is as basic as they get. Means it will be easy to keep running or fix it anywhere in the world. I recall dreaming about converting one into a camper The space in the back is just right. Even off roading was easy to do with it.
