I found this guy in my rock wall in my front yard under a black light. :Wow1:

Yikes!

So...did you use a black light to find it or do you have a black light in your front yard? Either way, did you perhaps faintly hear The Dead in the distance and suddenly understand "A Whiter Shade of Pale"???:snorkel:

I have a little LED black light flashlight. The scorpions will light up 15 feet away and stick out like a sore thumb. :sombrero: This one was down in a crack so I had to move a rock out the way to get a good view of him. He graciously stayed still for his portrait.

I have spent the last few years at battle with scorpions and Im winning. Brakleen is the weapon of choice, just hit them with one squirt and gone in 60 sec.

Very cool photo!

Cool pic. They're all over the Hill Country here. I've been stung by them. No love lost when I squash one.

I've seen more this year than any year previous. I think we've killed 7 or 8 in our house in the last 3 months.

The worst infestations we have are the yellow jackets.

Nice shot, Brad.

You can say that again. Years ago, I took a course at Thunder Ranch in the hill country. I stayed in one of their "cabins" which were fairly new, standard construction. The cabin was infested with scorpions. I would see them walking along inside the vent grille for the HVAC system, and saw one disappear into/under a wall socket plate as I went into the bathroom. Another time, I turned on the ceiling fan to have one get slung off the fan blade and bounce on my head on his way to the floor. Not fun.

One evening after a night shoot, I drove up to the cabin to find about a dozen of them climbing the outside wall. I stomped as many as I could. I was told if stung, just take a Benadryl and you'll be fine.

It's the small Bark Scorpion around here that are highly toxic, along the lines of a rattlesnake bite. Can be fatal to the very young/very old.
