I have an 05 Nissan Frontier 4dr nismo with a flip-pac. I recently purchased a cb set up and am looking forward to the install.
I purchased a Uniden 520xl, a swr meter, a firestik 4' firefly, and a comet 720 hood lip mount.
Here is my question: I originally bought the hood lip mount with the quick adjust knob allowing the antenna to be lowered for flip-pac or obstructions with the spin of a knob. Mounted on the hood the antenna clears the closed flip pac by about 1.5 feet.
I noticed that the mount could be reversed and used on the upper lip of my rear driver's side door allowing almost 3' of the antenna to be above the flip pac.
I dont know much about ground planes and wonder what the performance on hood about 1' from the windshield vs. passenger door very near the metal hinge of flip-pac.
Thoughts?
See the attached pic for proposed mount location.
