Nissan revealed a prototype of its new work truck today. The new cab/chassis will be built in Mississippi on the assembly lines that were used for the Armada and Titan. Nissan is partnering with Cummins for engines, and ZF for automatic transmissions.
Cummins has a 4.2L V6 diesel ready to go. The V-6 is rated at 270 hp and 420 lb-ft of torque. Not enough power? The Cummins V8 diesel puts out 325 hp and 500 lb-ft of torque.
Sales of the NV2500 will start in 2010. No word about pricing yet.
Here's one prototype, set up as a work van. The vehicle is 19.5 feet long overall, about the same as an Econoline extended length van. Wheelbase is 10 inches longer than an Econoline, so there is less rear overhang. There is 10.5 feet or cargo space inside the vehicle with the passenger's seat folded.
It's easy to see the potential here for conversion to a camper van. Now we need to encourage Nissan to pull some components from the Titan 4x4 parts bin!
It's interesting to speculate: Maybe a Cummins engine could find its way into the Frontier and Pathfinder, two models that use the F-Alpha frame like the Titan and Armada do.

Nissan also showed a smaller concept truck called the NV200. This one is built on their smaller B chassis. No production plans were announced for this truck, but you can be sure that Nissan will keep an eye on the sales of the Ford Transit Connect.

Somebody should get Sportsmobile working on a conversion of this vehicle!
