Nissan introduces the NV2500 work truck

Still missing is information about pricing. With a low price,
the high roof model could instantly become a favorite of
surfers and windsurfers, not to mention RV van conversion
companies like Roadtrek. Looks like a good mobile bike
mechanic vehicle, too.

Ford has been making the E-series vans for many years,
and can offer really cheap pricing if need be. So Nissan may
not want to engage in a race to the bottom with Ford.

Kinda copied the back end of the sprinter, yes?

Well, the low-roof model looks ok; nice to have a sliding door. Perhaps sportsmobile can add a poptop to it.

BUT, that high-roof model...UGH. :Wow1:

It would look great if it wasn't so ugly

Nissan designers have been smoking crack:

They all fell off the ugly tree and hit every branch on the way down!

Ugly??? Quite possibly... But oh the potential to make something great out of it...Cut the wheel-well's, slap on some 255/85's and a Fronty 4wd system/suspension... Sounds like a neat place to start to me. I think I'd like the short roof with some sort of pop-top designed into it.

Cheers

Nissan has announced prices for the 2012 NV work vans:
Low top vans $25-$30,000 depending on equipment;
High top vans $28-$32,000

The vans will be available with V6 (280 ft lbs of torque) and V8 (385 ft lbs) gas engines, mated to 6 speed automatic transmissions. The vans are available in 1500, 2500 and 3500 weight classes.

Competitors for the NV van include the Ford E-series, GM Express and Mercedes Sprinter. The Sprinter offers a high top and 3.0L diesel engine, but costs more.

Nissan made no mention was of 4x4. The NV van has a lot in common with the Titan pickup, so I think aftermarket 4x4 conversions will use Titan parts. A Nissan 4x4 Sportsmobile would be attractive.

Pickuptrucks.com got to drive production versions of the NV1500, NV2500 and NV3500. Story here
http://news.pickuptrucks.com/2011/02/first-drive-2012-nissan-nv-series-vans.html

The interior of the NV vans is more comfortable for the driver and passenger than vans from Ford and Chevy. The load floor is a couple of inches wider between the wheel arches than other vans sold in USA. Interior floor length measures 120 inches, the same as the regular wheelbase Ford E-Series van.

The NV line is available with gasoline engines only. No diesel is planned. While the Sprinter offers a diesel, it costs $6,000 - $10,000 more than the comparable NV model. That difference is enough to pay for gas for about 30,000 miles of driving.

Mercedes Sprinter is powered by a 3.0L V6 diesel. The Sprinter is available in Europe with 4x4, but in USA it's rear wheel drive only. Chevrolet offers an AWD version of the Express 1500, but only with the 5.3L gas V8. Chevy does offer the 6.6L Duramax diesel in the Express 2500 and 3500 with rear wheel drive.

30000 miles isn't very far in a work truck application.
Fuel will be $4/gal by the summer and IMHO oil prices are likely to rise, I've bet a fair amount on that.
I suppose that is enough ranting by a dieselhead.

Until the factory mentions 4wd, I have no interest. I don't want an aftermarket solution that has problem with stability control, etc.
