you run the same tires.

the difference between you and me is that these are only my street tires. but i guess you don't need trail tires. surprise surprise.

I know I run the same tires, and I love them to death. They have great street manners, and do pretty well in the mud and sand and clay they have been in so far. :smiley_drive: Now quit being a girl and unblock me on Facebook :snorkel:

are these pics with your timbrens? looks like you still have a good bit of travel in the front

Yep, w/ the Timbrens front and rear. My Radflo hydraulic bump stops should hopefully be in later this week to replace the Timbs up front.

Nissan from South Africa

What an awesome bunch of rigs. I don't see any other from South Africa, so here goes.

Some pictures of "Hillbilly". He got this name around 3 years ago and it just stuck. He is a 1997 D21 truck chassis with a fiber glass body build by an independent coach maker. Looks much like the first Gen Terrano's and also has the 2.7TD motor.

nice Xterra. how was the wind getting up to Gilmer? it seems every time we go up there, there's a killer wind trying to blow us backwards or off the highway. last time, we had a steady 20mph headwind and all 3 of our trucks averaged 9-11mpg.

2006 Nissan Pathfinder

Well, I finally registered and thought that I would post a few pics of my 2006 Nissan Pathfinder. It isn't designed for overland travel but it does great for camping and trailblazing! Yes, that is a homeade $35.00 dollar awning setup using a tarp, PVC poles, and a few bungee cords. It has held up to 30-35 mph winds with no problems so far. I also have a gravity fed solar shower made by Roadshower.com using a solar tube. The vehicle is mostly stock with some modifications and I have added a full set of skid plates underneath. I also made a few modifications for the ladder to be off the ground and supported by the rear suspension using a hitch step and bolting the ladder base to the hitch step. A simple pin and bolt slide system using 3/4" square tubing helps extend the shower away from the vehicle for access through the passenger rear door. The shower can be moved away from the vehicle an additional 30 inches for access to the back of the Pathfinder. The back of the Pathfinder also becomes a 2nd bedroom for camping in addition to the Eezi Awn RTT.

wind was out of the south all weekend, which was nice for the drive up to dallas on thursday night, less so for the drive east on friday. didn't do too bad in the headwind on the way back to houston on sunday either, drove 68-70 and got 18mpg.

the trails out there were in not so great shape. looks like they rated the trails when they built everything and just let it all go to pot. most trails were at minimum one number higher than their rating. one trail that was rated a 1, then ran into the "access road" which later turned into a 100 foot long mud bog.

oh i miss the days of decent fuel economy. with a 50mph tailwind and God in the passenger seat, i am only able to get 16mpg.

barnwell is notorious for the disrepair of many of their trails. they're working hard to get it back, but their resources are limited, as are their funds. they have bids out for a contract to grade and level many of the trails.

the access road that turned into a 100ft mud bog was probably between Green Lane and On Any Sunday, which themselves are rated a 2 but have holes in them the size of dumpsters. as a general rule, add at least 1 star to every trail at Barnwell. some are the trails that were rated a 2 or 3, are now completely impassable.

ever since the big rainstorms in september and october, the park has gotten much, much worse. we still go out there any chance we get, though, because the park is so big that there are always trails for every difficulty and skill level. for the best experience, go in a group and try to spend at least 1 night there so you can prerun the trails (in the most capable vehicles) on the first day, so you know what you can and can't do, and don't spend the entire day doing 30-point u-turns on the trails.

good to know about prerunning. first trail i ran was omega, which was fun up until it went into a rutted, muddy spot. i probably could have made it through, but i didn't want to chance getting stuck with nobody to pull me out and no winch on the first trail of the day. after that, we got a call from the lady at the office, asking if i could go help out someone that was stuck on skyview, and we spent the majority of the afternoon trying to figure out how to get back to where he was. eventually they got one of the rock buggies to come out and get him unstuck. about that time we decided it would be a good idea to head home since it was starting to rain.

Cool pictures. Nice sticker on your bullbar too :sombrero:

See the reaction when you shove that bullbar and sticker into a road pimple's back window after he cut you off at the last intersection. Even works better when you have a descent amount of mud to emphasize the message:Wow1:
