Nitto Ridge Grappler vs Toyo RT Trail

I don't know anything about the toyos but I have been running ridge grapplers for a few years and I like them alot. Good traction off road good manners on road. The only thing that I can think of that might be a negative is that they carry mud for a long ways. When I have to replace them I will get them again.

Both will wear faster than others plus like many tires weak sidewalls so if you are on trails with sharp rocks or other items ...

Funny I have'nt read anything about weak sidewalls except in the 2 ply sidewall. The lt tires are 3ply. Fast wearing doesn´t concern me much because I'll be replacing them due to age before getting close to 45,000 miles.

I’ve ran 5 sets of ridge grapplers. Great tire other than lifespan. Last set was on my sons 1500 ram 22k before needing replacement. Truck rarely saw off-road use. I currently have another set of f rated on a 2500, currently at 23k thinking I’ll get to 26k before replacing.

Good traction all round, very quiet, look great.

I have hit some rocky trails, like lava, haven't had a single problem.

Weak sidewalls aren't a problem unless you pick bad lines, or are extreme crawling. For driving on sharp gravel/small rocks and stuff your sidewalls should rarely touch anything.

I'm leaning towards the Toyos right now due the reviews, weight (255/80r17@52lbs) and being made in the USA.
The Nittos are defintely in the running still and their weight come in at an acceptable 55lbs for the same size +they're a great looking tire!
I guess it will come down to availability when I´m in Texas next month?

Just got rid of my Toyo R/Ts with around 45k on them. Have not tried the ridge grapplers.

The RTs came highly recommend. However the first time I used them in the rain I would do nothing but spin out. Day after day of spinning tires and traction control taking over. I could not back out of my driveway backwards in the rain. After the first season I had to bribe the tire store to cut sipes into the tires just to be able to drive them in the rain. They were fine for another 35k ish until the sipes wore though. Then back to traction control at every right hand turn from stop or uphill from stop in the rain.

Even with the sipeing I had to run dedicated winter tires when snow and ice season came around. Literally had to get pulled out of my driveway by another truck that was parked next to me. Never again Toyo RTs, never again. I've had 2 sets of Toyo mts and loved them when I lived in the woods.

I’m running Toyo R/T Trails in a 37 ( not the older plain R/T) and I’ve been very happy with the ride, noise, wear and traction. Very tough tire as well

I would never buy the regular RT. You can tell they are a dry country tire just by looking at them.

Good thing we are discussing the RT TRAIL, not the RT. They are a COMPLETELY different tire.

I’m backing my own opinion. Just ordered a set of RT Trails in 275/70R18 to mount on the Methods on my Sequoia. They are a week or so away from landing, but I have high hopes. The Falken (pronounced like “ducken“) AT3s will be flogged. Wife and I both can’t stand them aside from the fact that they don’t seem to wear.

I ended up buying the RT/Trails. So far so good. Very good on road manners. I've yet to get them dirty but that will happen soon.

Mine have been “delayed in shipping”, but they will see dirt on day one most likely. I drive the Sequoia off pavement every day:)
