No more royalex

After reading a couple posts on buying used canoes, I just want to throw out there; if the opportunity presents itself for an inexpensive used royalex canoe... Snag it! Royalex is shutting its doors this year and whatever company has the material now, will not have it later this year when it runs out. Just a thoughts to those who may be in the market for a canoe.

Can somebody explain why this is a good material for a canoe? It seems heavy and expensive as I look at used ones.
