hmmmm

curious why no one is doing a tundra build?

I love the Tundra. My wife and I test drove the double cab when it first came out and were VERY impressed. However when I did the math (weight capacity), it just doesn't work as a serious expedition vehicle. I don't think this is just a problem with Tundra's, it is the same for any 1/2 ton, full size pick-up.
By the time you allow for the weight of passengers, fuel, water, food, mods(bullbar, sliders, winch, long range fuel tank, etc) spare parts, tools, recovery gear----there is no weight capacity left for a camper, roof top tent or similar. So you have that nice big truck box, but can't put anything in it! My F350 (9900lb GVW) was 1,000lb over weight when fully equiped for Outback travel in Australia. (Thats with a 250kg camper)

Hopefully, Toyota will address this problem with the new 2008(?) 3/4 ton Tundra, too bad they are not going to do a diesel version in the forseeable future. On second thought , for me, it is probably just as well since I can't afford to switch vehicles in the next few years anyway.

Cheers

OK so its not a serious:archaeolo build but it does haul all the camping/fishing gear and all the yard mulch we need. I don't know how much the stuff I usually carry on a trip weighs, but the truck really doesn't notice. If we had the cash flow I could really spend it to do a Scott Impression:bowdown: (Expeditions East Tundra?), but it does what we need and works great as a DD. With the LSD rear and a set of all terrains (and on board air, and breather extensions) its gone everywhere we've wanted and/or needed. Now if I can just get those 255/85s to fit...

Not to be off topic but....

Jim, saw you a week or so ago on Rte 3, you were about to turn right on ferry rd as I went by. Truck looks real nice in person with the black on black treatment, that 4wdtrips decal needs to stand out more though

Thanks Carl, I try to go for a very low-key look. Don't want to stick out like a sore thumb ya know. The decal was/is an experiment; its magnetized individual letters are subtle, I didn't know if anyone could ever see them while driving until now. I'll probably have to go back to the white on black on the tailgate, but that's an awful lot of flash for my tastes. Next time chase me down, I'd like to see the Heep.
