Holy crap I just found this site and it's exactly what I've been looking for. My name is Dustin and I live and work in the Texas panhandle in the oil field. I have an 06 Chevy Duramax that has beaten around the oil field for 150,000 miles. It already has a 6 inch lift and 35 inch terra grapplers. I Got a smaller, better riding Tacoma for the field now. I want to use this truck for camping, running to the mountains and hauling. Occasional oil field use.

Plans are for a suspension revamp, maybe straight axle but not sure yet. Roof rack for Jerry cans, lights, two spare tires, shovels, hi lift and such. On board air system, rack system for the bed to hold a roof top tent and covered storage for tools, welder and other gear. And a custom tail gate.

Already have road armor bumpers but need a winch for the front.

Interior will be new seat covers, navigation and radio systems. Storage for food and medical supplies.

Only pic I have for now.

Hey there Dustin! Welcome to the site! Its a pretty awesome place, I think you will like it! ;) nice looking rig man! Cant wait to see it with the upgrades you've mentioned, those will make it a ton more usable for expedition traveling and such. One of my suggestions would be to put on a fiberglass bed cover, and mount the second rack for the RTT up on that, but then youd be able to keep a ton more stuff safely inside the bed without fear of theft. Plus, it would alow you to build a sub floor storage system, maybe put in some drawers to pull out and keep your supplies in, or just leave it open and throw some plastic totes underneath, nicely organized, plus then youd have a sold, flat floor to put more stuff on top of without needing to re-arrange anything. If you go under the "Storage Solutions" section of the forum you will find a thread entitled "Post up your drawer/storage system". That will give you a clearer picture of what I'm on about and give you a ton more ideas.

Good luck with your project man! And I hope you enjoy your stay with this site! I know I have! :D

Welcome to the site Dustin. You already have a nice rig :Wow1:and it sounds like you have some good ideas for mods. Regarding putting your jerry cans and jack on a roof rack, can I suggest building a swing away rear bumper to store those items? That would keep those heavy items lower making your center of gravity also lower. I always say, for 4 wheeling, heavy stuff down low, light stuff on top. You are going to fit in well here on the site as you have already got the first unspoken rule down perfect! POST LOTS OF PICS! And your rig will certainly be the next new build we all can enjoy following. Also, since you are new here, I will start by saying CHEERS! There are lots of us that like to drink a beer or 2 on the site......:)

Hey thanks guys. I'm definitely down for a beer or three every now and a again. Thanks for the suggestions. I think your right on the Jerry cans. I want four with diesel and four with water. They ultimately may go in an expo trailer with cookers and other support gear. I definately like the swing out idea. I have a really stout road armor rear bumper that one could be mounted to.

Cheers!

Welcome to Expo Dustin. There are some great rigs on here, and your's fits in just fine. Great people, and tons of knowledge are available here. At least in Amarillo, you're close to some scenic wheeling. I'm outside Dallas, so it'd take me 12 to 15 hours to get to some of the awesome places I see on here.
