not an expo trailer but car hauler question?

Moderators please move if posted in wrong area.

I have a jeep that I haul to the off road parks not the jeep I use for camping and hauling my off-road trailer an off road rig.

My question is... on this site and others I see pics of people hauling vehicles on their trailers and it looks like they have them as far forward on the trailer as possible.

I tow with a Superduty but I try and keep my vehicle back on my trailer so weight is as much over the dual axles as possible. After all the front and engine is the heaviest. Just wondering if I am mistaken in my thoughts? Tow a lot and truck handles fine but if I'm wrong in my reasoning I'd like other opinions.

Your weight needs to be distributed with a slight majority of it being handled by your vehicles rear axle and the trailers front axle. Many people move the weight to the front of the trailer and end up placing the majority of the weight on the towing vehicles rear axle, making the truck/suv lean backwards which leads to handling and braking issues.

By placing your jeeps weight over the trailer axles you are distributing the weight well, just don't go too far back.

I would go to a weigh station and/or town dump with the trailer loaded and disconnect it from the truck and get the gross GVW .

You would want insure you're tongue weight is 10-15% of that total number. Take and unload the trailer with the tongue jack on the scale and move the jeep forward or backwards to reach that number.

I always liked 15%..don't want anything getting light on the hitch end.
