Yes there is a way to retrofit one, if you use advanced search with word "cabin" or "dust" i think you'll find the post about it. One of the southwest members on here cut a hole and added one to reduce all the dust getting in his mont out in the desert.

I've not been able to find anything with that's to the Gen 2.5 honestly. If you or anyone else knows of the thread and can post it here- sounds like several of us could stand to benefit from this link.

Did you buy a pre-formed/cut rear carpet? Or just a length run and cut it yourself? Carpet replacement is on my list of things to do, but i also already threw my rearmost lower panels in the trash. Was considering running carpet up to the window surround plastics to make it look more "finished."

The rear carpet was pre cut and included with the molded front section. I was expecting the carpet top have a sewn edge but came as a straight cut piece.

Was the front carpet a fairly annoying job? I did one in my MX6 and it wasn't easy to line everything up and trim it nicely enough to look oem-ish once all the trim pieces and such were put back on. Maybe easier in a Monty due to having more space, though?

It was tedious to get things to line up well enough, but having a sharp razor blade and good amount of room to work with really helped. The rear hasn't been trimmed up yet to allow the rear seats to install, but seems like that will be easily accomplished. The front was a good amount of work to trim up the gear shift area. I think I've got 4 hours into it from the starting point of having everything out minus the drivers seat.

I second this. Threads/directions for retrofitting a cabin filter into the Gen 3 abound, but not Gen 2 or 2.5...

Well- I'm a firm believer of buying a smoke free car now... If you are sensitive to the smell and found a promising car. WALK AWAY. Getting the smell out is a massive undertaking.

I'll likely be buying the ozone generator and taking things apart even more to get the smell to a tolerable level...

I'm primarily doing this to clean honestly. Was driving the car the other day and turned the heater on and the smell was unbearable. While I'm here I will clean out the HVAC system and put on a little insulation on the top section to help out the AC. I've done this once before on my old Subaru with great success and will do the same here. Expect pictures of the HVAC insulation project...

I'm trying to not pull the HVAC system apart to get the smell out, but may not have much of a choice. For now I'm just trying to make use of the limited access as seen in the pictures.

Its still behind the HVAC assembly. Are these known to go bad?

Dash has been getting attention over last few days and nearly ready to reinstall. Will be pulling the rest of the HVAC plastic out this week for access to the heater core and AC condenser before everything is reinstalled.

Besides a deep cleaning I've insulated the upper hvac ducts and will tinker around with the system a little more before it's reinstalled. I've also taken the time to cleanout the instrument clusters and am installing led replacement lights as per a led replacement guide found here on the forum.

Still working on the hvac system currently. I'm hopeful to call it 'Good enough' today and plan to reassemble the dash. Here are a few random pictures. Yes- I'm using a wall paper steamer to steam the AC and heater cores. The cleanup is helping and the water coming out of this is pretty bad, so I'm hopeful this will fix the smell.

The good news is I think I've found a solution for a cabin filter! I'll make a separate post once the idea has been implemented.

Its a tight fit, but it works! The filter needs to have two pleats removed and of course, you will need to trim the lower grill supports on the hvac recirculation covers as seen in the pictures.
