Now I have one, too. Now what?

I've wanted a Bantam trailer for the longest time. This one was a USFS unit at some time, painted my favorite color (Forestry truck green), and was converted to a dump unit. The tail was cut out and hinged through the upper portion using some 5/8" all-thread. Also, the tongue was lengthened and a 2" ball receiver added in place of the pintle. All the work appears to be pretty well built, save for the all-thread. No data plaques remain to ascertain true age. I set the Weatherguard van rack on top, saves it from being on the ground.

I drool over some of the pics of these trailer replete with RTT, all the remainder of the camp gear, and the wood stoves.

Ok, so now what?

Grease the bearings, check the tires, and go camping! Seriously, you will find that as you use it ideas will form on how best to load it (which gear fits and which doesn't), whether you need things to be dry (lid) or if you can get by with storage bins, etc. Although a lot of the trailers may look similar on the forum, they've all been customized to their owner's needs. You may not need/want that RTT, prefer to unload and setup camp and use the trailer to haul wood, etc. Let your design evolve as your needs become clear.

Good luck!

Made some decisions today

Six months have passed since I brought this trailer home. Nothing had happened to the trailer with the exception of growing wasp nests. I was only stung once last night moving the trailer around, yeah!

This morning, while I waited for my commuting buddy, I applied a little OD rattle can. The tentative product looked acceptable, so I completed the project this evening. The best thing about rattle can on an old vehicle or trailer is the lack of prep. The trailer needs some metal work if I was going to make something serious with it, but meh!

New look:

I do plan to SAS the trailer to fit the 33" mudders presently on my Ramcharger. The RC will get a 3/4T make over with a small lift and bigger tires. In order to maintain the trailer tilt ability, a swing away tire carrier will be tricky, but that is not a near future concern.

Have a great day, thanks for looking.
