Now what do I do?

Okay, so as of 2 hours ago, I'm the proud owner of the back half of a Ford Truck, well not the whole back, just the frame, suspension, axle, tires, etc.

It has been modified to hold an in-box camper set up. (Previous owner would put his camper on this trailer when it wasn't in his truck so he could move it around as necessary), so it has been leveled out and has some angle iron and what not.

Right now, I'm going to put a floor on it, wire some lights, and figure something otu to cover the wheels, and set it up to haul my kids soap box cars back and forth to the track (yes, ford truck suspension may be a little overkill for my current needs),

I will attach some pictures this weekend when I pick it up. But my questions are....given the relative inexpesiveness (sp?) of this set up, why don't more people use the modified pickup trailer things for expedition use? weight maybe? Eventully, I'm going to build a box on this to use for camping and travel to pull behind whatever vehicle I want...

What am I missing?

Well, I can tell by the post count that you guys are dying to see my trailer, but probably won't be picking it up this weekend, I'm snowed in...

Highways

It's odd being snowed in, in April, but yeah, half of I-80 is shut down, as is quite a bit of Highway 30. This morning there were semi trucks everywhere, even just stopped along the side of the interstate.

I was looking at buying the back half of a Datsun pickup at one point and building a trailer out of it. For $300, the salvage yard was going to cut the frame and let me haul it away, but I never did it. I didn't have any serious tools at that time and no way to move it. I think something like that would be nice to have, but I would definitely want to switch out the axle so that the pumpkin isn't hanging up on things. At least a couple years ago, full-size pickup beds were really expensive. For a full-size pickup bed from a Ford, Chevy or Dodge, the salvage yard wanted $1500 - $2000.

I'm a victim of bad driveway design, I have a bunch of open fields and then a row of trees between me and the neighbors and all the snow piles up right in my driveway....

awww, it is all melting off today, but my 'parking place' for it is still under a drift....I'll pick it up next week. Pretty excited about having something to initially haul soap box cars on, and then eventually build into something....better.
