OBS F250 slow adventure build

We got a chance to explore some forest service roads around Darrington. There are some pretty good ones in the area and we found a good shooting pit at the end of one. I want to explore all the ones that are not washed out or closed over the summer.

Kids having a good time

We found a cool rock pit. I book marked this one for shooting trips later.

The girls love "soldier"

The front end caught lots of leaves

I'm trying to ease my wife into driving the truck off road. There wasn't any need for 4x4 but it is a good start just rolling on the FS roads

On the way down we saw a pretty big black bear eating berries on the side of the road. He scurried off as soon as our big noisy truck came close.

Thanks man. I will build a front bumper at some point. I need a winch as well so I will probably pick one of those up then build the bumper around it. I'm not sure what I want to do first, a bumper, sliders, or my 12v power project. The power would be most helpful for camping so that will probably take precedence this summer.

Love the OBS Fords, and really miss my 97 F250HD. Couldnt stand the ride, should have done the solid axle swap and could have kept it but it was the 460 V8 and decided not to. If it was the 7.3 I'd have never sold it. Nice work bud!

Thanks for the kind words! There are few things worse than a worn out TTB leaf sprung front end! Mine had less than one inch of up travel when I removed it and the bushings were so shot they were metal on metal.

It is unanimous! The worst thing in the world is a beat down leaf sprung D50 TTB! I feel like we should get a Nobel Peace Prize or something for that. I have been trying to decide what the next thing I need to save for is. I want air lockers, bumper/winch and sliders, or a SPOD with full 12v power system to the bed and lighting. Man it never ends! LOL!

Make air lockers priority! The difference even one makes is night and day... Build your own sliders and I always see winch bumpers for the obs for very cheap on craigslist

I vote for junkyard factory limited slips (can be had for very cheap and do quite well), self-made sliders and bumper (we know you got the skills), and a nice heavy-duty winch. save up for air lockers at a later date if you still feel the need for them. No idea what SPOD is but if it doesn't help you get to where you wanna go or get back from where you were it should go on the back-burner for now at least.

Nice build amgvr4 :bigok:, I just joined this forum specifically because of this thread. I was google'ing OBS crew's for my current project that have done linked/coilover conversions and this thread was one, specifically one that is actually current. I have been gathering parts for my next step to link my 95 F350 Crew 4X4 7.3 front and back with coilover's all around, already has a D60 Kingpin front.

Have done a TON of work to it already in the last few months on engine, performance parts, and lack of maintenance from the PO. Just got done building front/rear bumpers, in the process of building a tiregate. My setup will be more for desert, but will still be doing the occasional mountain trips around Naches/Rimrock, way to big for most Jeep green dot trails. Anyway, nice build and maybe see ya round the NW, not to many built OBS's around these days.

Thank you very much! I have taken my truck places most people thought it would never fit, but mine being a short bed does help a lot. I would love to see pictures of your truck as there are very few OBS fords that are linked for actual off road use and not just to look like a monster truck. I love my truck more and more everyday and at some point I will three link the rear to get the ride height proper and more closely match the front.

Underdrive:

I will definitely make my own sliders and front bumper, but the truck already has the factory LSD and it is completely useless at this point. From what I have read I could rebuild it and cram some extra clutch packs in there but it would be toast again in short order. I think I will try just putting a Yukon zip locker in the rear for now and then I will be able to go most places in 2wd, then later I can rebuild the D60 and add a front locker at the same time.

The SPOD is a super nice modular 6 switch panel and fused/relayed set up. For the price I could not make anything half as good and functional so this is one of the areas I buy over build. I want to add some good lighting for driving, rock lights, and a switched power panel in the bed of the truck for a fridge and the tent/camp lighting. Here is the link

I also want to possibly add a house battery that will let me run the bed accessories in camp without fear of draining my starting batteries. The lighting and house batteries would be the most useful for camping this summer so that is probably where I will focus my attention and save the fabrication projects until the off season.
