Alright, so I have a CVT Mt. Shasta Extended Pioneer RTT and I'm looking to mount it on the roof of my '97 XJ. I just ordered an Olympic4x4 Top Hat roof rack from Quadratec, which Olympic4x4 states has a 300lb weight capacity.
Three-hundred pounds seems really conservative for a steel roof rack that uses 6 gutter mounts, so I'm assuming they mean "in the basket". The total amount of gear I have to mount on the roof is 390 lbs and I'm not planning to assemble it with it's upper rail, but rather use only the cross bars and platform base. Then in the front, I'm going to fab a small basket that will accommodate 4 Jerry's and small propane tank.
I'm also aware that the 'static weight capacity' should be much higher, since when in use and the vehicle is not in motion, the weight of the rack contents, as well as my wife and I will be shared throughout the unibody via the gutter mounts.
Questions:
I may be answering some of my own questions this evening when I meet with a local fabricator to go over my stinger bar design, so I'll ask him the last question and report back.

Questions:
- Has anyone else done this? I searched high and low and couldn't find anyone with the same setup.
- Should I be concerned about the weigh limitations?
- If this doesn't seem feasible, where else can I get a full-length rack for under $600?
- Do you think I could have one fabricated for less?
