Welcome to the forum; very nice project there.

Have you started any sketches or found any plans/concepts that you favor yet?

And show us pictures of those Greek beaches... ...it's cold here... :sombrero:

Frame coming along

I had some time to spent on the project so i called Stefan(profesional ex ship yard welder)to help me with the welding.I thought maybe i could refresh my welding abilities .I had three welding classes a couple of years ago,but no action eversince so some spying wouldn't hurt:Wow1:.Plus that i would have my frame profesionally welded.::wings:
Fisrt I had to extend the tongue so i bought two pieces of galv rect tube big enough so the 'C' channel tongue i have could slide right in.Made two holes each piece so a bolt grade 6 or 8 would bolt through
P2010035.jpg
[/IMG][/IMG]and then welded the sleves all the way around. Some would call it overkill...
Then connected the tongue to the frame
P2010037.jpg
[/IMG]
And this is the result so far

I 'm not quite sure what to do with the 1st crossmember 'couse future camper plans ask for this point to be free.On the other hand(no matter how stout it is and looks) i might have to redesign...

It's been aweek no since we last worked on the trailer and so we spend some time on the utility tub(remember? there's also gonna be a pop up flip out slide out one).
Here is the basic line and since it's gonna be tilting we still have to make the hinges, fenders, jack point, lid and other details
P2010041.jpg
[/IMG]It's mabe out of 1.5"x1,5" galv steel.

Oh and here is my tow rig for those who are interested

After several busy days at work i finally took some time this weekend to get myself an axle
P2210075.jpg
[/IMG]Yeah you're right it's upside down in the pic:sombrero:
It came out of a CITROEN ZX complete with shocks ,brakes ,hand brake wires and everything.
The gross weight of the back side of this car will be pretty much close to my trailer's.
I wanted this to be a bolt on and so i thought.
But this was not possible because of some bolts placed in some funny angles.
So i decided to make a simple rigid frame for the axle ,fix it there and then bolt it on the trailer's frame(easy? hope so):wings:
Stay tuned...

Well another weekend out of work so instead of playing around with my 2 yrs old doughter i'm back on my project...(I know she and her mother are gonna thank me for that when summer comes).
So we build the rigid subframe i was talking to you about so i can bolt on my axle
P3010076.jpg
[/IMG]
Then i test fitted both axle and subframe onto the trailer's frame
P3010077.jpg
[/IMG]
I really like the way it looks solid(and hopefully not heavy)as a rock...:coffeedrink:
I also think that i finally have to provide more strength to the first crossmember...
It is time to make a hinge for the utility tub so i can tilt it whenever i want to
(using a jack or something )and also to be able to remove it so i can put on the popup one...We used a tube and there's gonna be a threaded rod slided in fixed with remoovable nuts.Unscrew one nut, slide out the rod and off you go tub.
P3010078.jpg
[/IMG]
In the next pic you can see Stefan the welder(i paid him 130 euros=150$)
for half the cutting and all the welding job) and the happy supervisor my father
P3010079.jpg
[/IMG]
Now i have to figure out where to place the jack and what kind of jack is it going to be.I want it to be something cheap and easy...
P3010081.jpg
[/IMG]
Notice that the frame is not extended as far back as the tub.So iam gaining ground clearance saving weight.Plus(this is an old trick) the force that i need in order to lift the tub is WAAAYYYY smaller
P3010080.jpg

OOHHH...And a friend of mine gave me today two tires i can use(bridgestone
AT dueller 265/70/15.
I hope they'll get on well with my TJ's 31/10,5/15...
We'll see...:victory:

Bringing this back from the VERY dead!!!

Being really busy i didn;t have time to do much for my project but i kept following th progress of yours.
I only had time to paint it(black restoleum) and put the pieces together.
I used a pair of allu rims(15x8) that cusin of mine gave them for free.
Mounted the Dueller tires.

(Yes i know lug pattern does not much the tow rig).

So I went for now with some 195/75/15 that i had lying around, and here is how it sits .
P7110214.jpg

It sits up quite high(Dumn i thought i calculated that right)and i have to adjust.
Two options.
#1 To unbolt it and rebolt it under the tongue(not so safe looking)...and
#2 To make an extention and raise up the hitch some 2-3"
Any opinions?
