Would you consider jumping right to the 5x12, and investing the time and materials you were going to put into the 4x8 there instead? Perhaps you would not need the rack then, and could outfit it with a tongue box and side boxes. Or place fuel, water, and gear across the front and the bikes 3 across in the middle/rear. No reaching overhead, little investment in fabrication time and materials, and more easily resalable when you are ready to move up. It may already have the 3500lb axle with the right hubs with brakes, just add shocks. Oh, and it won't ever be top heavy.

That is, if you planned on one trailer at a time. Besides, the 4x8 will always be there as it is for a back up or chase trailer.

Good point. Either/both trailers need to have suspension upgrades anyways. I like the 4x8 for it small size/easy to pull.
