Oil Filter question.

I used to only use Toyota filters. Now, I either use Amsoil Ea filters or Puralator filters (only with synthetic oil). Fram is junk, IMO. If I ever switch to dino oil, I will use Toyota filters.

Why would you change based on what oil you use? Oil molecules are on the order of 0.01 micron and most full flow oil filters are gonna be in the tens of microns in filtering size. Synthetic oil molecules are a little smaller, but more importantly are also more uniform. Just thinking, maybe you are using a bypass filter? Still, the regular full flow filter would be in place, right? In any case, I don't see how using conventional or synthetic would matter when a bypass filter might be good down to 0.1 micron.

Just thought I'd post up that the 90915-YZZG1 oil filters are available. I checked the system today. The 90915-YZZB9 is no longer available. There are none in the country and the part number changes to the YZZD1 number.

If anyone is interested in the other filters, contact me and I'll make you a good deal.

Wow, didn't see this until now, (7 months later....), but I was just going by the extended oil change intervals using synthetic vs. 4-5k miles on dino.

Also, I just sent in my oil sample using Royal Purple with Puralator. I am now trying out NAPA Gold (by WIX) and will see how it performs.

that's cool man, i wanted to bump this thread earlier, so i thank you anyway. i was going to add, i went with a PL20195 purolator filter for a jeep liberty on my 3.4l tacoma, it is longer by almost double, putting oil capacity to an even 6 quarts. coupled with mobil 1, i think it has made a big difference (isn't that what it's really about? :sombrero: ), and moved my oil change intervals to 5000 miles. as long as i keep up on a clean air filter (about to switch back to a factory air bow and a true flow filter) my oil comes out looking like honey, and smells better to boot. i know only an oil analysis can say just how clean it is, but i'm not that worried about it, i think it's doing a better job than convectional or blended oil and a fram filter personally, but considering these toyota's reputation seems to be well deserved, you could probably still do the less and see decent results

Do you have much silt in your area?
I've sworn off of K&N anything (oil filters = guilt by association) after never having been able to stop grit from showing up on the inside of my buggy's filter housing.
Wix or the Car Quest private label (made by Wix) are my current filters of choice.

I've been sticking a magnet on my oil filter for a couple years now...I haven't yet cut one up yet...but do anyone know if it actually does something?
