This thread needed to be bumped. Good looking truck!
Thanks! It’s a 20 footer, but I’m gonna put a clay bar on it this weekend and I’m scouting for new wheels. The driver who hauled it from the East Coast said he had two people offer to buy it off the truck!!

Some of my favorite photos from the last couple years. 1995 4Runner. 22RE 5spd 4.88 gear change w/ Detroit TrueTrack in rear. 31x10.5R15. Converted to manual Aisin hubs, Bilstein shocks and HD Moog springs, V6 radiator. Fridge, solar, Bluetti power system, storage/sleeping platform. Pretty stock otherwise. 178k miles.

My 1990 4Runner. Originally from NM and then Seattle area, has been in Hawaii under my ownership for 19 years now. Good rig for the rough, unpaved subdivision roads. The suspension has held up, it has not become a "rattle trap" as many vehicles in the area do. Granted, it's only used seasonally rather than year 'round. Around 160K miles. About 8 years ago I replaced the tires with a set of used showing decent tread, sourced at a local junkyard for $100. Last year I noticed they were just starting to get a bit of cracking so I finally got around to reading date of manufacture on sidewall. 1992! Well, guys would keep running them in 3rd world countries no problem but 28 years old is probably pushing my luck. So, new Toyo tires-265/70/16. 30 year old, 28" spare no longer holding air had to go too. Got excited about finding a replacement tire in excellent, practically new condition just this past winter that's 31x10.5x15 on original 2nd gen aluminum rim as pictured on 4Runner in the previous post. $20, what a deal. Saggy rear coils replaced with Moog, auto hubs replaced with Warn, 3rd gen 16" wheels, (4Runner did not have original wheels when I bought it), Smittybuilt front bumper picked up locally for $75 since original had been damaged on mainland, otherwise stock with the 3.0/auto. 4runner.jpg

Great pics of a Toyota living it’s best life!

How about an old toyota conglomeration? I had an 1988 toyota pickup that was super simple and took me all over the southwest. I'd throw some camping stuff in the back and take off to colorado for a week and a half, or go hit the rubicon or dusy ershim trails. Those were the good ole simple days! Then I got married and had a family and I've been trying to get back out ever since. I realized the truck was kinda useless for a family so I converted it to a 1994 4runner body. It was much cheaper to find a blown up 3.0 4runner than a newer 4runner. Once I got that running I realized the 22re just wasn't going to cut it any more with the added weight so I swapped in a chevy 4.3L V6 and auto trans. Its california smog legal now and we've been using it quite a bit to go exploring and just get out of the house.

Some pics from a recent Death Valley trip:

I must admit though, that while I have a ton of plans for this thing still, I keep thinking it just doesn't have enough space for all of our gear and food and maybe something that is newer would drive better, quieter, and be easier on the family. However, I haven't found anything that keeps the same level of off road performance(crawling) and gear storage as this vehicle. Oddly enough the JKs and JLs just don't have the storage capacity that these 4runners offer. The JT is tempting though.

I think this might be the right place to ask for advice. I've had this 91 3.0 pickup for around a month and have been knocking out the to-do list. Next is some suspension work. The tires are 33". The front diff drop measures 4.5" center to center between the bolts and the rear has 2.5" blocks and I think some sort of short add a leaf. The leafs look really bad. What should I do to get things back level with the shell and more gear?

I know this post is almost 4-5 years old, but I have a question: is that a Brahma topper?
