OME Dakar spring question

For those of you running 255/85R16 tires with OME dakar springs;

My question is, do the OME leaf packs re-locate the axle forward so you clear the rear fender similar to the way the Alcan and deaver packs do?

Are you asking about Dakar springs for an '05 + Tacoma?

I run these with 255/85/16 tires on my '06 and have no problems clearing the wheel opening.

No, I am referring to the springs for the 04 Tacoma's. I don't know if they are specifically Dakar springs, but any OME spring for the 04 Tacoma. They seem to be a cheaper option than the dever or alcan's and they still allow factory load carrying.

The OME springs available for that truck, CS046RA & CS046RB do not relocate the center pin. These are a bolt on replacement providing approx. 2.25" of lift and at least a couple hundred pounds of extra load carrying capability.

Thanks a bunch. That's too bad, as I would like the load capacity, but don't want to spend the money on Dever or Alcan's if I can avoid it. I was hoping to keep my stock rims and go 285/75R16 ort 255/85R16. My understanding is that the 285/75 is not rated for a 7" rim (though I know there are guys doing this) I just don't want any reliability issues with the tire/rim combo.

The OME springs I installed on my 03 Tacoma Dbl Cab moved my rear axle forward approximately 1/2".

I have the dakars on the back of my 01 with 255's. The Dakar leaf springs did move the tire forward. It moved it a little too far forward on my truck. It doesn't rub bad, but it isn't centered either.(on full compression)

I have spoken to a few people that had a similar experience. Some it moved things forward just right and others too much.

I think it boiled down to production margins in the truck and/or springs.

I would recommend the 255 any day over the 285, I'm not sure the 285 would tuck inside the rear fenders.

95.5'-04' Tacomas use the Dakar CS046RA/B which replaced the OME 15A/B rear springs previously offered. Major differences have more to do with the origin rather than the actual specifications though there are some minor differences between the two.

Installing the CS046 on an later 98-04' models will move the axle ~1/2" forward from the stock location as measured at normal ride height. However using the same spring on the 95.5'-98' "short spring" Tacomas will net the axle moving slightly back to the rear of the opening. (note the short spring setups require relocating the rear spring hanger).

If you having issues with front rubbing, you can either trim/modify the fender at that location, or use a cheap axle relocating mount that moves the axle back 1-1.5"

That is great news. Now I can get the Dakar springs at a lower price than Alcan or Dever and retail load capacity. No offense to Alcan or Dever guys though as I know those are top of the line springs, they are just slightly out of my budget right now.

As an aside, I've nearly worn out a set of BFG A/T 285's on a 6.75" wide rim (GM OE forging). Tread depth has remained fairly even across the width of the tire. The outer edges might be 1/16" or less deeper than the center. Any difference is small enough that it is not glaringly noticeable.

Still, my preference too would be for the 255's. I just couldn't get them in an A/T.

I am running the Cooper STs in 255/85/16, they are great. An aggressive AT tread, but definitely not a full mud tire. For me, the perfect compromise.

I ran them on my 02. They rubbed a little in the rear of the well with 255/85r16 bfg mts, but never caused any problems. I put in flat screws like expo west did and that was it.
