OME Nitrocharger Sport shocks?

My understanding is that they are completely new shock absorber, with new internal engineering, valving and construction.
You may get some info from the Press Release here: http://www.arb.com.au/media/press/April09_NitrochargerSport4x4ShockAbsorbers.pdf.

You might find some more info digging around on ARB's australian website www.arb.com.au in the newsletters and such.

Of course keeping in mind that any info you find on there will from ARB's PR and Marketing departments!

Changes: New valving with additional valve discs, better piston, better seals, the shock shaft cover is now plastic instead of steel. This is particularly of interest in applications with slight shock rubbing (Tacoma's) as well as keeps the shock body from getting as peppered by rocks.

This is what I am trying to understand.

The new ones have a floating piston with the nitrogen pressurized behind it like a Bilstien 5100 has for decades.

The new ones have the majority of the shock filled with oil then there is a "floating piston" that separates the oil and gas. Behind it the pressurized nitrogen sits.
The new kind will fade a lot less because of the high pressure internal reservoir and prevent fading as fast.

I ran them on my Jeep JK with the heavy load springs. In my opinion they still werent still enough. My buddy had them on his FJ... they both rode higher than 2.5" even with gear in the back. Probably not a useful comparison but I replaced a tera-flex kit on my jeep with the OME and they were better on road, better off-road and gave my Jeep at least an extra 1"-1.5" over the tera-flex 2.5" kit.

Just curious if anybody has these yet or has heard anything about them......

Help me compare/contrast them with other stuff on the market.....

I think that it worth distinguishing between something made in the same factory and actually being the same product.
The OME's may be made in the same factory as Monroes shock, and no doubt numerous other shocks, but it doesn't mean that they are the same shock. They're all made to different standards/specifications and with different parts, with the nitrochargers being made to the standard and quality set down by OME.

x2 It's similar to cell phones, the Google phone is being manufactured by (iirc) HTC but they are to the exact specs set down by Google...some companies just don't have the resources to manufacture everything they sell they outsource.

Thanks for the answers guys. I hope this means the "old" style shocks will be deeply discounted now. :sombrero:

Still loving mine. Overall customers have been really happy with them. There are a few applications where the older Nitrochargers are preferred by for most the new Sports are ideal.

I'm another person who runs a full OME suspension (waiting on my Torsion bars right now) and I also had the joy of getting to first learn about and abuse the hell out of OME suspended LandCruisers (40, 70, and 80-series) in Australia. When I came home I knew that was who I was going to for my suspension...

I've been running the Standard Yellow OME (no remote resi's or what-not) and they've been flawless for the last 10,000 miles. They handle loads VERY well at speed on rough washboard and courigation (the Dakar springs help too) without fade. My 4Runner is certainly not a low-cog sports car, but the OME shocks sure do handle the mass well. I can hit the large idiot speed-bumps at like 50+ mph and the truck doesn't bounce, bod or oscilate AT ALL. They suck them up and control the heavy truck pretty dam well. I'll def. be going with OME's for as long as I have a Toyota or any 4wd (I'll have a Toyota 4wd till I die so...) no questions asked. Dollar wise I don't think there's anything close to them in terms of cost - performance...

Cheers

Nitro Charger Sport Shocks

I recently replace my old OME nitro charger shocks with the new Nitro Charger Sports Shocks (NCSS). I noticed an immediate difference. The vehicle is a 1985 Toyota Land Cruiser FJ60 with an OME heavy lift wit anti reversal shackles. The old shocks were warn out, so the difference was dramatic. I feel the new NCSS improved stability when cornering on the hwy. The performance off road was the real difference, on rough roads the ride is smoothed considerably. As for the performance on the trail, the NCSS give sure footing and stable obstacle to obstacle control. I would recommend these shock.

OME Nitrocharger Sport Shocks

I have the sport shocks and OME coils, 2008 FJ Cruiser. Love em. Dirt roads, washboards, highway just about everything you can throw at em they handle very well. Just remember though shocks can only do so much yer axels still get pounded, and you DO get what you pay for. Happy trails!
