Just keep your eye peeled on Craigslist, TTORA, Pirate4X4, etc....you never know some used stuff may come up...when guys start making their rigs into buggies...and don't need the mild suspension any more.

Interesting you guys talk about removing a leaf for better ride. I added a leaf to my pack from an OME 05+ rear spring pack. Guess I'm jsut real heavy in comparison.

I think us pre-05 Taco owners, complain of the rough ride. I guess the new ones weigh a heck of a lot more. So when is Toyota going to drop a V-8 into the new Taco...that 4.0 would of been nice if the kept the size small.

I didn't think my OME's were stiff enough. I average about 500# over stock before I load up. With the 500# I sat just at stock height.

I thought of another question, can I use the stock shackles or should I buy the OME shackles for OME leafs, and if so will I have to cut my tailpipe so it doesn't blow onto my leaf spring and also will I have to get the extended brake line?

I used my stock shackels, Wheelers Off Road, has a drop bracket for the exhaust, you won't have to cut it. Extened brake line is only 20-30 dollars. If you live where it is wet often, I would get greasable shackles.

I paid $650 for the complete rear set up, includes new poly bushings too.
You may want to try Kurt, too at Cruiser Outfitters...he posted in this thread.

When I did my rear suspension I went ahead and used new shackles(OME), new bushings and greasable bolts front and rear. I recommend them. Don't use this suspension off road without installing an extended brake line. The added lift along with the increased travel will cause problems with your factory line. I ended going to Off Road Solutions in Arvada and they did the brake line for me. They do really good work.

O.k. guys, I have been thinking about what the info you gave me, I want to do this once with the truck I have, so I am looking into the future for what will end up on the front and rear. My thoughts are:

OME 882 coils, only because I can't afford camberg,SAWs, or King's. I will probably put a bullbar on later. Will I definitely need a diff drop? One of the sites that has these for sale said the springs are taller?

OME stiff shocks for front N91S I think?

Rear: OME Dakars, with Bilstein 5100 shocks.

besides the brake line and greaseable shackles will this set up allow me the 2.5" lift I need? And will it allow me to run at least a 32 x 11.50 AT tire?

Just curious as to why you decided on using the Bilstein shocks in the rear vs going with the OME shocks.

Someone on this gave the advice that they were better. I am going at this from a zero knowledge base, I haven't even figured out if i can install this myself or find a reputable place on the front range to do it.

I personally like the OME shocks and think they work really well. They were designed to work with the springs. Either shock will do fine I'm sure. As far as the install it's very easy. Save yourself some $ and do it yourself. Having a buddy will make the rear go quicker. You may want to take your front struts to a shop to have them compressed and put together. Other than that it's very easy. There are some great write ups on the install out there, I'll see if I can dig them up again. Once you have the front struts put together it's simply 4 bolts on each side. The rear is not too hard either. If you decide to do it your self let me know and I'll give you some tips on things that made mine easier.

Curious,
I hav seen two different parts places say contradicting things on front coils and shocks. Anybody have the inside track? Wheelers' states that OME coils will fit other shocks, however 4x4 connection states that only OME shocks can be used with OME coils. I ask this because I want to put Bilstein adjustable front struts with OME 881 coils and the 10mm lift enhancement plate. Only reason is the Bilstein's are adjustable. So i can start at a lower adjustment until I add a TJM or Bullbar.

You should PM cruiseroutfitters he knows a lot about the OME suspension (he sells them) and he should get all of your questions answered about install etc. and he could probably even give you a pretty good price. Thats where I am going to get me OME suspension when I get the money. :wings:

I pm'd you. I am in Colorado Springs. I have done a few OME kits now for some friends and my truck. Shoot me a message if you end up doing it yourself and need some help.
