I got some Bilstein 5125's for the rear of the truck. The guy at Downsouth Motorsports says black boot down, mechanic says black boot up? Your supposed to read the label straight across and right side up from what I have been told( and I think makes the most sense). I think I trust the guy in Cali over the guy here. Any opinions?

I guess you have loop on both end for the 5125. My 5100 has stem on the rod so it can only go in with black boot up. From what I understand with a mono tube shock it can go in either way.

They are monotube shocks and you can mount them either way. Valving is not affected. It's your choice. Many put the body toward the top as a big enough dent will render a monotube useless. The cans are pretty thick though. Another reason is clearance but that's usually a factor on the front for solid axles than the rear.

As others have stated, the orientation of those shocks does not matter. On my truck, the shock body is at the top.
