Not sure what the going rate is on monteros over in VA, but in ca they can be found for less. I picked up my 95' SR with 120k miles in almost perfect shape for 1800. The 3.0 engine is easier to work on an parts are more plentiful, but they didn't come with rear lockers, and the axles and front diff aren't as strong. All can be swapped out, however. With the gen 2.5 you're getting a newer car which is nice, parts are pretty easy to find also. All are good in my opinion. Later models had more power. Some complain about the 3.5 dohc reliability of the SR, but with proper maintenance and fixing the bugs like the lower intake, they're solid. I love my 95 SR
So slowwwwwwwwwwwwww its like you are not ever even moving.

I just picked up my '99 a couple months ago and have been researching on what to do as preventative maintenance but this is the first time I've heard of any issues with the lower intake. Is this something that I should address or can be removed to not have to worry about? I've got the 6G74 so I'm just wanting to make it as bulletproof as possible, thanks!
$3k seams like a lot.
Hold out for a 94+.

Sounds like this isn't the truck for you.
Next.
The differences in 94+ are super easy to find and have been covered many many times in the 2 years you've been Montero shopping. Short answer: they're just better.![]()
