Opinions Needed

I currently have a 2019 F-150 with a 3.5 in it. I recently have had to have quite a bit of warranty work done to it to enclose front and rear suspension, some electrical work and the cam phasers, they also had to rip it back open and replace the tensioners. It has 40k miles in it and I owe a little on it still.

I’m contemplating getting rid of it and looking for a 2012 or newerRam 2500 with the 6.4 or Cummins 6.7 in it. If I get a gasser it will be less then 75k miles and the diesel will be 100,000-130,000. What are the pro’s and cons. I can probably get enough off the F-150 where I can put a few grand with it and darn near buy it outright and get rid of the payment. What are your opinions of those trucks with that mileage, assuming they have been taken care of and maintained? What would you do? I use it as a truck, camp, drive it to work and also tow a 22 foot boat a few hours to the coast periodically.

Gasser is way simpler, easier, cheaper to run...... might be much more reliable too.
Only reason for diesel is towing altho that might be an old wives tale today.

Gas! Unless your towing heavy all the time, which guessing you don’t given the F150 3.5 choice. I have a late 2019 Expedition 3.5 zero issues. But I did discover after my purchase that Ford quietly made a few tweaks to the 3.5 mid/late 2019. For example mine has a cast aluminum oil pan. Which really threw me for a loop when I changed the oil the first time. Did more digging and seems they quietly did some other tweaking to the 3.5 also. Likely related to the timing issues and phaser issue.

What do you mean by enclose the front and rear suspension?

Cam phasers and tensioner is a known issue, what was the electrical problem?

If you're gonna be towing then def get the cummins, they pretty bulletproof engines and nothing beats the sound. That said, you do have some downsides including you'll eventually need to replace the turbo, and emissions equipment will fail with time and need to be cleaned/replaced. Modern emissions equipment is lightyears ahead of the old stuff, so I wouldn't be as concerned, but something to know.

If it were me, and I wasn't towing anything, I'd prob save the cash and get the hemi. It sounds great, the new 8speed is awesome, and it's overall lighter which means more payload. Downside is less range, and the MDS system isn't something I'd trust, although I hear the updates have solved their issues I'd still look into swapping the MDS system out myself (although to be fair it's prob comparable to the emissions systems on diesels).

Now, if you live in an area where they don't worry about emissions on diesels, and you're ok with deleting that would prob give you the best of all worlds, except for price.

Not sure what a 22' boat weighs but I'd go with the 6.4 cause well... This doesn't come with a Cummins...

I have a 7.3 diesel with 115k I got it it had 80k,
pits been ok but I budget for break downs.

if I was to replace it, the replacement would not be another diesel unless it was a cherry low mileage pre def truck.

otherwise it would be a gasser replacement. Diesel is not worth it to me for the cost, or impact on the weights for the sound of a diesels

Nothing wrong with towing with a hemi. But if you’re doing it all the time then the diesel might be a good idea. The 6.4 is plenty powerful enough to tow a 5-10k pound boat or whatever every now and then. You’ll just get terrible mileage.
