Opinions on installing a L702 screen

So I was viewing Ray_G's thread https://goo.gl/8Cp8DX and his Kenwood V1000 and L702 screen install.
I wanted to go with the aforementioned install as I wanted bluetooth, access to Sirius XM, backup camera and also take advantage of the aux switches in the V1000.
I have sourced all of the items but I guess I hadn't thought of one issue:

I do currently have the Nav option with the 4x4 info screen. Is there any reason why I should consider not continuing with my plan of removing the factory nav screen and therefore losing this "4x4 info" screen?
From what I understand, most guys that have done this install did not have the factory nav.

Thank you for any input,

A.

Yes - I started without LR Nav. You may need to have a IIDtool to recode your LR to forget about the factory nav. I have seen the 4x4 info screen, and would trade it for the Kenwood features in a heartbeat.

IMO keep the stock NAV. I understand if someone had the NAV-less truck there is the incentive to add functionality where there is only a cubby, but the stock NAV works great.

>maps updateable to 2016, now 2017 nav data for cheap ($30)
>4x4 screen can give you your exact lat and long in the bush.
>4x4 screen compass works great
>you can add bluetooth music separately with a hidden module
>I always appreciated the way the nav was set up, in that it would actually tell you what is coming up at each highway exit (fuel types, food, lodging etc). Nice little backup if you miss the signs.
>4x4 nav has breadcrumbs feature (nice way to find your way out of somewhere)

If you have the NAV and it isn't broken I would NOT replace it. YMMV.

Thanks for the tip on the Nav update- I am still not convinced I want to keep it. It sounds like the only info I would be missing is Nav related, not anything on the 4x4 screen.

ColoDisco, thanks for the tip on that link. I sourced all the other items above for way under $700, so I am not sure I would buy that unit for backup camera purposes only. I guess I will continue to think about this...

While its not the most useful thing, it has its moments. You can diagnose a few suspension problems by using the 4x4 screen, and it should tell you when the car is locking the centre diff.

I did find the 4x4 screen useful while climbing Engineer's Pass with our 2011 LR4 with HD. It helped understanding how the drivetrain/diffs were engaging and disengaging as we worked our way up the trail. Helped me judge how much throttle to use and where to back off and let the truck/tires find traction. I know LR says keep a steady throttle and let the TC system figure it out but overall it worked better if I controlled the truck based on observed obstacle BEFORE it was encountered. Less spinning of wheels and less trail impact.

Thanks mpinco! I've only owned the vehicle for three months so I haven't really had the need to use it yet. I appreciate your input.

The 4x4 screen on the Nav was cool for 2005, but I would rather know what the wheels are actually doing rather than a graphical depiction. This is from 3 years ago; I have some better camera angles under the truck now:

I currently have 3 camera feeds (backup, front bumper, and under), but would trade it all for 360' view. Maybe on the next one.

Do you have an install for the feeds on that? Very nice set up! I want a front and rear bumber cam that I can feed into my IPAD on the dash! Thinking about going to a IPAD pro since it has split screen options now.

With the kenwood really not much to the feed; install cameras, run wires, plug into KOS unit. Done.
