Opinions on RTT mounting height?

Good AM all!! I have a 2006 Ram Megacab with a 6" lift and 35" tires, i am trying to decide if mounting my RTT on top of a topper will put it "too high" and if i would be better off making a custom bed rack and mounting it closer to rail height? Any help or guidance would be greatly appreciated!

I have had mine mounted an inch or so over the top of the bedrails in my Tacoma. I am hoping to build a new one in the future (meaning hopefully this winter) that will put it about at cab level. I would also like to incorporate maybe a canvas to go around it to keep most of the rain & dust out. It won't have to be waterproof but close. My old boss still has his canvas/interior shop so I will probably get him to make something up.

I just find that I could use a little more room under there. Maybe with you being in a full-size you won't have the same problem but consider it. I will probably throw a set of the bed LEDs in there too to help.

You may also want to keep it higher if you want to use a gazebo or changing room in the future. That is another reason for me.

Height will matter if you plan on using an annex/changing room. If not, then it's up to you.

They work well anywhere from 4' to 7' off the ground, just keep in mind wind resistance. If it's on the topper, you will take a hit on mileage (maybe 1-2 MPG) as opposed to the top of the RTT being level with the cab.

They make ladder extensions for most models, so if your ladder ends up short, that will fix that.

Most RTT's weigh in around 110-140 pounds, another thing to consider when they are up high, although not as much of a problem on your truck being it's full size.

I figured id tke a hit on MPG but i hope to have a diff daily driver in the near future. Im tooying with the idea of selling my Fiberglass cap in turn for a DCU unit with side doors and a full rear door.

That is exactly what I am considering for the future when the boy gets bigger. Its either a DCU or a Flippac.

I bought CVT Mt. Ranier w changing room I will be mounting on top. I really lie the idea of safe dry storage along with my RTT.
