Opinions on Spacer lifts for RRC?

I have a 1993 RRC LWB. It's been converted to coil springs before I got it. It has a pretty nice ride. I'm also running 245/75/16's on it. The front tires are rubbing when at full lock. I'd like to lift it about 1.5" with a Todd Co lift spacer.

Anyone used any of his stuff before? Is it good quality? I don't want to change the ride quality by changing springs. The RRC won't see much off-road action. Its in really good shape and I don't need to bash the body panels into oblivion.

Thanks

What springs are on it now? You may need longer shocks with an extra 1 1/2 lift depending on the current springs.
Is it rubbing the Rad arms at full lock? A lift will not fix this.
Todd is a very nice guy.

No, its not contacting the Radius Arms. I just checked. Its rubbing in the fender somewhere.

What kind of shocks will help it keep the stock ride? I'm not sure what springs or kit was used on it. When my wife gets beck from the store with it, I'll see if there are any tags or marks on it. its had the conversion since before I bought the truck.

You seem pretty resourceful, why not just order some 4" aluminium round and make your own spacers?

I'm going 2 inches on mine and going to run 265/75's. On my last lwb I ran 255/85's with the original eas.

The lwb's had longer travel shocks, think it was 12 inches vs 10 for the coil sprung trucks

ive been thinking about this too for my '93 LWB... ive got greens (150#) in the front and green/pink in the rear (178/220# progressive) and stock shocks for ride comfort. This gave me maybe a little less than an inch increase over stock which is 130# in the front and 150# in the rear for the SWB. (mine had eas obviously) I love the ride but want just a touch more height. Ive added the bolt in isolator for the tops of the front springs and the isolator ring for the tops of the rears. this gave me another 1/3 of an inch but i'd like maybe another 1/2 inch or so. Theres also a 1/2 inch difference in ride height from front to back with the back being lower. Ive ordered another set of isolator rings for the bottom of the rears but that wont be enough to level out unless the front dips enough after the rear is brought up that small amount.

So basically i want to keep my great ride but want a ~slight~ lift or at least bring the rear up a bit.

With the 1-2" lift, will I need to modify the driveshafts? or do you think it'll be okay?

I've had mine up to 90 mph (most likely the fastest I'll ever go in it, it's not a BMW) so far, and it feels good. I don't want to make it drive like crap with too much lift.

On my last lwb I ran 255/85's with the original eas.

Details please - Spacers? Taller bump stops?

I've got 225/75's on my EAS LWB now, and it only looks like a 215/85 may fit when lowered. I have not yet re-mapped the ride heights, but the clearance limitation, as I see it, is unintentional drop to the bump stops.

well it depends on what you have now. establish that and I would say you would not want to go 2 inches over stock without really taking a look at your new suspension geometry. My goal, as yours seems to be is a little higher while keeping the great classic "magic carpet" ride. Thats why i went with the isolators before spacers as well. They really knocked out a lot of NVH that I had noticed before. Also my springs are taller by an inch rather than higher spring rate. This allowed me to increase ride softness while getting a slight height increase. adding spacers for me i imagine will give me an increase in height while reducing the soft ride to acceptable levels.

if you already have a 1.5 inch lift or so with conversion springs (most conversion springs gave you the "high" setting in EAS) then you probably have some rather stiff springs already at least in rover terms. So spacers might affect your ride more negatively. Its all subjective though. I wholeheartedly subscribe to the long soft spring theory on articulation and find many of the softest aftermarket springs too harsh. Spacers might affect that which is why ive held off for some time. But they obviously work for a lot of people.

Sorry for the rambling, Ive still not really decided...

I have HD Old Man Emu Springs on my Disco, I like them just fine. But I have a winch, ARB Bumper, Roof Rack and TJM rear Bumper. And I carry a lot of crap.

yeah that makes a big difference too, how much stuff you carry. Mine's mainly a DD with light camping gear, aluminum roof rack, and a stock brush guard.

I was fine on the stock driveshafts for 1.5 to 2 inches. When I installed RTE 3 inch springs I immediately noticed vibration in the front drive shaft. I replaced the front shaft with a GBR double cardon and I swear the car feels like stock again.

No spacers, didnt change a thing. The truck did eventually go down on its knees and I put plus 2 coils on it. I was able to drive it home on the bump stops when the eas failed. The limiting factor was how sharp I could turn since the tire was up in the fender well.
