Options For Powerful Onboard Air?

Again another plug for the Extremeaire's. All of the reasons I would have explained had you called in and asked us which compressor is the right one for you have been posted. Plus the 24v option should be a plus too.

Can a rig with two 12v batteries run both 12 and 24v? I've seen a wiring diagram for this setup, but I would like to know for sure. (No transformer, just having the batteries wired in both parallel and series)

Impact tools use a lot more CFM than an 3/8" air ratchet. You probably didn't run an impact tool long either. When you have a bunch of small fasteners to remove/replace ie birfield repair, diff swap, etc. CO2 will work all day long. I did a full diff swap on my FJ40 and still had enough left to air up my tires.

That said I will add a mechanical pump to my truck as soon as I figure out where to mount it.

As Kurt mentioned the other plus for CO2 and electric pumps is that you can move them from rig to rig easily. Great if you own more than one truck.

If I have any more trips like the last one I'm going to need more than 10# of CO2 to power the air grinder, impact and ratchets :D Thank God Gary...aka MUDRAK...had the welder AND an electric grinder or I would have been SOL.

I was packing one in the trailer too, had things got ugly right off the bat we would have patched it back together by the time you got to Gary to break :D

That's good and comforting to know Kurt. So we're going to invite you along on ALL our off-road forays here-on-out :coffeedrink:

Check out www.pacbrake.com they may even offer a engine driven unit. I'm mounting a york and two 2.5 gallon tanks charged to 120psi in my bronco. With giant tires it would be nice to have at least one 5 gallon tank charged when you begin to air up or if you need to seat a bead, run an impact, etc.

That why I stick to easy trails. :sombrero:
Why don't you hurry up with that Sanden install so i can copy it and have mechanical air to compliment the CO2?

Just here...
Im going to bring this one back. I have a tank with an Ultimate Air regulator on it that is great for small things, its probably a 20lbs tank, not too sure though, but am looking at mounting a compressor for times where I need some more air. Im looking for something that isnt that big (in foot print) as it will be permanently mounted but can sustain a decent amount of pressure. Another plus would be a light electrical draw as I want to wire this through a Blue Sea fuse box already in the truck and its rated for 40amp draws max at each one.

So, what would work?
