Ordering my suspension... Finally

I'll do a steering box brace eventually. Last year I had to put in a new rancho steering stabilizer since I bent my stocker nearly in half. It was all I could find in AK in an emergency. I got a "mild" suspension because I don't plan on doing crazy desert stuff. It should do just fine in the mountains. I don't plan on being in SoCal forever(knock on wood) since i get moved about every two years and I need an all-around truck.

ha ha......absolutely. are you going to upgrade the steering?

i see those suspensions seem more geared for desert type stuff, how do they do in rocks and mountain type terrain?

i was researching my suspension and settled for 5125's for my setup.

is this what you mean? http://www.thecarlisuspension.com/dodge-ram/suspension/performance20.html

I am going with Thuren Fabrication's 2.o system. pretty much the same as the carli system but with Fox 2.0 remote reservoir shocks and more money in my pocket.

Fox is right next door to NTG Racing in the unlikely event anything happens to the shocks.

King's in LA and Bilstein's in Poway.

Kinda nice living in Shockville,SoCal.

WOO HOO!!! Got the system installed today! I did a quick drive on the highway and tried to find some areas that I remembered being a crappy experience before... well the truck handled them great.

The ride is still firm but it is more of a solid feel than harsh like before. When going over RR tracks and potholes the truck feels more controlled and sure footed. I can't wait to get out this weekend and hit some dirt roads.

I had Joe from NTG Racing in Santee do the install for $450, quite a good deal. Joe is a very knowledgeable guy and has a lot of experience with the Dodges. I am glad my truck was in good hands. One thing I may still do is the '09 steering linkage upgrade, but the Death Wobble seems to be undercontrol right now, so no rush to spend another $500:ylsmoke:

It was a bit of $$, but I think this opens a new world for me and my truck:wings:
Time for an Expedition:sombrero:

The only drawback is that I can't fit into the lower level of my parking garage, but I'll be moving soon.

I'll take some pics tonight.

Sweet!!! It's alway nice when you spend money on something and it actually works like it should. We'll have to hook up sometime so I can check out the new setup.

I am getting a set of 5160's and have National Spring do a rear pack and likely coils. I am not looking to go much higher than stock (~1") as I want to keep the camper and overall CG low. I'm not looking to pre-run this thing. The camper will be on 99.9% of the time so I am setting the rig up for that.

Can't wait to see pics!!! Congrats!

Stoked!

Jonathan,

Glad everything worked out well! Tough to beat Don's personal service and Joe,Pablo and Luis' expertise with the Dodge's.

NTG works on just about anything with an engine, but specializes in Dodge's.
The beauty of a full leafpack from National on the 2nds. is chucking the enormous blocks back there. Axlewrap should be greatly diminished.

There was a guy down there with an '05 and a large Callen cabover shell. National had built him a custom pack as he never removes the camper.

That's awesome that you ended up with something you like!

I didn't see this thread before, but just in case someone else is considering, I've got some info to add.

Bilstein shocks, as far as I know, are also 2" or so in diameter. 5100's are what they think will work well on your vehicle, while 5125's are ordered by length and valving. 5150's are pretty much the same, with a small piggyback. I had considered all of those before looking at the 7100's which I now have on the front of my Suburban. Bilstein 7100's are also ordered by length, piggyback or non, and valving, but there are many more options on valving, and they will work with you to get the ride you are looking for. The 7100's are also rebuildable, and I felt the price was pretty darn reasonable, at around $175/ wheel.

I can't comment on the Fox shocks, other than I run them on my mountain bikes :)

As I said, I'm glad everything worked out! Please give us a report after you get a lot of miles on them.
