OT: subscribing to a thread

just curious, but why do people reply "subscribe" instead of just subscribing with the menu? It seems like irrelevant clutter in the thread.

Possibly a way to show general enthusiasm toward what will follow in the thread. Maybe it lets the original poster know that people are interested in the subject matter. Keep the OP giving details of what they are working on or doing. I know I wouldn't continue to detail a build thread, trip report or what have you if I didn't think people were interested. Yes, I do realize you can see how many views a thread has. Just my initial thoughts.

Yep. If no one replies, I assume no ones interested and stop.

An "In" tally would solve both issues.
