Our little camping trip from HE - double hockey sticks

Took my daughter camping for a few days. Only 45 minutes from my house.

At first, all was fine.

Then small hail started.

Then it became bigger.

Then it looked like a thousand golfers were targeting one small field and loonie size hail was bouncing 3 feet in the air.

Glad we were under permanent cover of a cookshack.

The truck looks like a kid took a ball peen hammer to it. The roof vent in the trailer was broken into little plastic pieces by the hail. Had to remove the wet, frozen together hail from the top of the trailer as the roof was becoming concave.

I love Alberta but the weather is way too unpredictable.

Yeah, I got clobbered in the NE part of town last week. It was localized but the trees in my neighborhood lost a fair bunch of leaves. Not as big as you got though. That's gonna leave a mark!

Glad you guys were OK. That can be pretty dangerous.

We had a big hailstorm in town a couple years ago. My Tundra and my wife's Sequoia were both damaged in it, although her's was relatively minor. The hailstorm we had brought us tennis-ball sized hail. OUCH. My truck got hammered right outside my office, along with all the other vehicles in the parking lot. My wife was picking up the kids from school in her Sequoia, and had the presence of mind to pull under a pretty big pine tree. Although it could have been disastrous if strong winds or lightening blew down or struck her shelter, the hail was slowed significantly by the branches/pine needles. Being a mile or so away from me, she only saw golf ball sized hail stones, too.

When it was over, my truck had huge dents in the roof, hood, and even the sides were affected. The roof doesn't bother me that much since I can't see it. The sides look like car door dings, so although they exist and I notice them, they really aren't too bad either. The hood really bothered me. Eventually, in a minor fender bender, I damaged my hood and it was replaced. I was quite happy to know the swiss cheese hood now as only a memory.

I feel your pain. I just had $3200 worth of hail damage fixed on my truck from a storm back in April.
