I hope to give an account of our trip back up to the Tip of Cape York including some of the video that we recorded. All up we covered 5337 Klm. used 1028.16 litres of fuel ranching in price from $1.54 to 2.55 / litre giving fuel burn of 19.26 litres/100 k. A little better than last year but because we didn't have the big slide-on camper on it was much more driver friendly without the top weight and wind resistance. No tyres were punctured and still more than happy with grip and handling on and of road. Highway road speed was in the range of 95/100, tyre pressures at 35psi front 45 rear. As soon as we hit dirt roads speed was reduced to 80 tyre pressure was reduced to 30 front 35 rear. High range 4wd was used on all the roads that were corrugated as this gives a lot better ride and handling. The shock absorbers which are 9 way adjustable are normally set on 5 front and rear, we changed the front to 3 which improved the ride on the corrugations. We traveled some of the beaches and didn't let tyre pressure down any more as we were getting through even soft sand but did have problem leaving 1 beach going up a rise as I was running out of power from the engine as we were bogging down in the sand. A little tow from my brother Mitsubishi Challenger instead of letting tyres down solved that problem.
Whilst up there we meet several other Canter (Izusu) owners and were able to have a talk. It was certainly great to meet other like minded people and discuss their views on their vehicle. A great time was had talking to a lot of the travelers with a lot wanting to know how our Canter was able to handle the rough terrain.
Video is going to take time to go through and process so I will upload it as I get it done.( Work is also getting in the way) I am going to try to keep it in order of our crossings that we traveled from south to north. I may edit some posts to add more video of the crossing that the post is in reference to. We didn't have to bypass any crossing and all in all had fun doing them even though some were challenging.
This first one is Palm Creek ,going in.The first crossing on the track. I haven't added any music so if you like it with my video turn on your coolest cd and have at it. This is raw footage with all natural sounds and brake squeal (dust on the brakes, we need a water crossing).
This is Palm Creek on the climb out to the north, very easy exit.
Here is a short section from the the vehicle mounted camera crossing Palm Creek. Had a lot of trouble finding a program that I can use to pull out pieces of clip without it affecting it. The camera is mounted on the mirror frame on the driver side. (sorry date is wrong, but that's life.)
