I agree they can be nutz up there at times!

If I see Anybody coming at me............I pull over to the UPHILL Wide Side of the trail....either forward or back.......and STOP.....and wait for them to pass.

The Moto's and Quad's are the worst! Sometimes I wish I had a CB Loudspeaker on my Grill.....so I could scream at them to SLOW DOWN!

ALWAYS Remember what is just behind you.

Sometimes backing up is even safer.....so don't be afraid to do it!

Giddy-up! Black Bear was the one trail that was in quesion. I never planned to do it with the trailer so no worries.

Mike,
A couple that are very close friends of mine just got back from this whole area. She just posted a bunch of pics. Might help you with a current, 2 weeks ago, look at the trails and area. http://www.delcolfamily.blogspot.com :26_7_2:

All this talk and pictures now are making these next few weeks seem so long as I'm headed up there around Labor Day and I can't wait.

I love the new Rubi, I keep repeating the keep it stock mantra but I've gone ahead with a RE 2" Lift and a Shrockworks bumper. I'm itching for a new rear bumper and some larger meat but I'm trying like hell to remain content for now...
I didn't realize the rear bumper was a point of weakness too, I'll have to start working on that. Meanwhile keep telling yourself you don't need those 35's and that you really are happy with the stockers.:smileeek:

I will be in that area Sept. 15, 16 and 17 and I'm staying on Ouray. I will be on the trails on the 16th and maybe the 17th, just a short weekend trip...

From Ouray to Telluride I plan to run:
Yankee Boy Basin
Imogene

And on the return trip from Telluride to Ouray I will run either:
Last Dollar Road
Ophir
Still undecided on this have heard both are nice

I will have kids with me and we plan on panning for gold in Yankee Boy (weather permitting) and stopping frequently to take in the scenery. If that sounds like fun to you drop me a PM and we can meet up!

I did Imogene and Last Dollar back in 98, particuarly enjoyed Last Dollar. I dont think you can go wrong with any of those choices however. Enjoy your trip.

With those who don't have an AT it is hard not to react to the word trailer with something in mind that is just totally different that what these things are. I opted for caution, but appropriate for my level of experience and longer wheel base. Looking back, I could have easily made Ophir Pass and Yankee Boy. I will say that camping along those trails was not appealing to me. As I mentioned in my trip report, I took one steep, rutted, high road with no issue at all. But, backing up for me is still tenuous. The small size of the trailer makes it able to turn very tightly when backing, but at the same time it reacts very quickly to any small turn the driver makes. Have fun!

I realize that it's the week after Labor Day weekend but is there no one interested?
