Ouray to Telluride over Black Bear Pass

Last month, my buddy Eric and I drove out from California to Colorado to meet friends for a week of adventures. They have 2 AEV Jeeps well prepared and itching for the trails. We met up outside Ouray on a portion of the Alpine Loop near Pughkeepsie gulch. I rolled in late after 18 hours of driving and arrived to freezing rain and hail. Morning was chilly, but a few breakfast burritos woke us up and kept us warm. Ran across a broken down brand-new jeep thank only required a fuel line reconnect to get him back on the road. A pack of motos was stuck with a bum kickstand switch, so we gave them a magnet and they kept rolling as well.

Up and over Black Bear Pass into Telluride. Awesome trail. We came across a rolled 5th Gen 4Runner that I read on Instragram had an accident. Ouch! Check out his license plate...how ironic! We grabbed some tasty burgers next to the Telluride Brewing Company and then headed to Sand Flats in Moab for the night. Next stop....Maze District of Canyonlands...

a few more pics...the LR4 did suffer a banged up door from hugging the canyon wall too close. That turn definitely has a high pucker factor!

love that area. i often do a turn and burn out there for the annual black bear backwards event, but it's been too long since i've been out there for an extended period of time and visited more of the area.
