out west august '06

Eastern Idaho and the central mountains are great places to explore. More trails then you can get to in a life time. I have lived here for 20+ years and find somplace new every year. I have started getting into DS bikes last year and have started to ride fire roads and single track. My kids are just old enough to tag along on there dirtbikes. I have always thought it would be great to start an off road outfitter service here. If any of you are in the area do not hesitate to give me a call I would be glad to host an outing. Since I am self employed I just need a reason to play hookey.

August has never seemed so far away. I need a rescue from reality now dang it.

I need a little of this :camping: this :suning: and this

Well I spoke to several small ranger stations in Idaho and I can not believe how nice and helpfull these rangers were. Some of them just poured there hearts out about al these little side trips in the area we will be. I called up to order some maps and get a handle on any possible trial closiers in the areas I want to explore and got much more info then I was expecting. Heck one office even passed me around to 3 different rangers that had more experience in different areas of outdoor interests!

I know the F.S. doesn't aways get rave reviews but in this case :clapsmile

You may want to check this out.

I grew up racing desert. these are some of the best sand dunes in the west.
the best part is there is a lake to camp around right in the dunes.

We were planning to hit big springs and that is on the way. I never considered looking for dunes and that would be cool to check out. I am working on finalising plans for that part of the trip right now. I will keep it in mind. Maybe a day there would be fun.

I have never done dune driving. Is it the kind of thing that is fun al day or or would you say a few hours cruising around is a good time and then call it a day. Of course keeping in mind that we wil be in a loaded truck so catching air all day willl not be high on my agenda. Now if I wasn't loaded that would be a different story.

Man I can't forget my grease gun if we go here LOL!

Ths biggest part of the problem is time. I need like 6 months to do the stuff I want to.

Ok so it looks like I'll be leaving Saturday. I should have the gears wrapped up by wednesday. Test run and break in on thurday and hopefully if everything is working I'll be packing Friday and leaving thursday. Only about 5 days late but given the amount of work I have been trying to get done it's not bad. If I'm lucky I will have a few days in colorado to play stil but we will see.
