Overland-ish Base Camp Ground Tent

Not sure if I’m just typing in the wrong info or looking in the wrong thread during searching, but I have not seen any post on the Overland-ish Base Camp Ground Tent. Are there other posts? Does anyone have any info on them? Just found them yesterday while looking for easy setup ground tents. Thanks for any info.

Never heard of them, but you will probably find a lot more info on the tent they cloned, called a ShiftPod. By all accounts, other than pricy, everyone seems to love their ShiftPods. Here is a video from Brad at TrailRecon:

Thanks. I’ll look at those as well. Do you know of another easy setup ground tent like these? I’ve seen the gazelle tents. Not bad looking themselves. Thanks for chiming in.

I have the Nemo Aurora Highrise 4p and it’s a great tent for the money. Marmot is another great brand that offers great bang for your buck.
Stepping up price wise, my next family tent will probably be a Seek Outside tipi with a stove - it offers more room, packs more compact, lighter weight, etc.

consider....moab....most base camp tents require stakes....won't work there.

look for free standing tents that you can stand up in with tons of room. Note that the gazelle tent has an open (screened) ceiling. You loose a lot of heat there in winter, shed alot in summer. any sand blowing will dump a lot within the tent.

I run a redverz motorcycle touring tent. Not free standing :)() but has a great vestibule. recommend using old tent modified as a ground tarp (at least for the vestibule floor).

Still on the prowl for the perfect base camp tent.

I want to thank you all for the great ideas. I’ve looked through all that were suggested. For the ease of putting up and taking down, quality, reviews and overall size I still keep returning to the Overland-ish Base Camp V2, the Shiftpod 3 and the Gazelles. I’ve come up with the following pros and cons below.

Overland-ish Basecamp V2 $1275
Pros: small pack size, large interior and head space, “big” windows, two color options, easy up and down, triple layer

Cons: expensive, heavy, have to pay more for rain fly and bottom tarp, hard to find real world reviews, 5 triangle windows I believe don’t have mesh, unsure of waterproofness,

SHIFTPOD III $1600
Pros: large interior and head space, easy up and down, carbon fiber poles and hubs, triple layer, endless reviews,

Cons: large packed size, expensive, heavy, small windows, only comes in reflective “color”

Gazelle Brand Tents
*not yet researched* Will update.

I’m currently driving back from a 2 week trip out west with a gazelle T8, and I can’t recommend it for anywhere with much wind, or rain. The fly design is not good, and the tent is not strongly made. We had a thunder storm in the badlands, and after holding the roof up and the walls out for a while, the fly came off (the little strap that held it on broke), one of the fly pole ferules broke, and 4 out of 6 of the stake tabs came off.

I used the speedy stitcher to sew the tabs back on more securely, and the fly poles fit without the ferrule, and I replaced the broken elastic bits with paracord, but even with all that you still need to stake out the hubs to keep them from being blown inward, and the roof also likes to collapse when the wind is high enough.

Not sure where to go from here - springbar or snowpeak I guess.

I'd add Kodiak to Springbar. Very similar, lower cost option for those that can't afford the original. But does need to be staked down.

From the PNW here. I have never heard a good review of the Gazelles from anyone around here. They leak like crazy, the fly design is horrible and the doors suck. Maybe good for the desert.

Just get a normal tent. For that kind of money you can get an amazing Hilleberg that will last a lifetime.

Thank you for the input. After checking them out more and watching the review videos online, I had actually decided to pass on gazelle. Most people have issues with the hubs and water getting in. Thank you.
