The Flippac was actually big enough for our family since the mattress was completely out of the truck bed when deployed. In the 4wc, the mattress extension took up over 1/2 of the bed area. The new camper will extend further over the cab, so the mattress extension will only be 18" or so. Also, with the Flippac there was no wasted space between the slide in and the bed. With the flatbed I'll also be able to use the fender space. The flatbed is 5'-6" long and the camper box will be around 6'-6" long.
With the added length and full fender area utilization, I should gain enough storage space for all of our stuff.
Full size won't fit where I usually go. The 4wc barely did. The Sierras have some great trails, but the tree clearances are tight and branches are low. I also plan to tackle the Rubicon this summer. Full overland camper with some rock crawling capabilities. I know- big goals!
Slickrock trail near Bear Valley.
Sketch. Won't have the lower boxes though since we incorporated the HC bumper.
Not sure if it will popup this high. If it did, I could easily sit up in the bed. And the peak would be around 9'-6" from the floor.
